Catherine Tyldesley reveals she ‘lost her mind’ after being left feeling ‘weak and vulnerable’ about her body after welcoming her second child
As a woman who has experienced the rollercoaster ride of motherhood twice over, I wholeheartedly empathize with Catherine Tyldesley‘s struggles. Her candid admission about her body after giving birth to her second child resonates deeply, and it’s a reminder that no matter how strong and accomplished we may appear on the outside, our inner battles can be fierce and formidable.
Having gone through similar experiences myself, I know the feeling of being ‘unfit, weak, and vulnerable.’ The pressure to ‘spring back’ after childbirth is immense, but it’s important to remember that our bodies have just accomplished a miraculous feat – they deserve grace and patience.
Catherine’s journey serves as a powerful reminder for all mothers out there that we are not alone in our struggles. We may feel like we’re juggling multiple roles at once, but deep down, we’re all trying to keep the balls in the air while hoping no one notices when they drop.
And on a lighter note, I’d like to add that if I could go back in time and tell my pre-motherhood self about the joys of sleep deprivation, spit-up stains, and the endless pile of laundry, I would have replied with a classic line from Mary Poppins: “In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun. You find the fun and snap! The job’s a game!”
Motherhood may not always be a walk in the park, but it sure is a hilarious rollercoaster ride!
In a recent interview published on Wednesday, Catherine Tyldesley shared that she felt less than her best, describing herself as physically unwell, weak, and exposed following the birth of her second child, opening up about her post-pregnancy body.
The 41-year-old actress is married to Tom Pitfield, whom she wed in a grand ceremony in Cheshire in 2016. Together, they have two children: Alfie, who is ten years old, and Iris, who is just two years old.
Catherine has opened up about experiencing a challenging phase post-pregnancy, as she strived to recover and regain her physical wellbeing following the birth of their daughter.
She confessed that she struggled with her mental health and experienced long-term illness, as well as sleep problems during pregnancy.
In a conversation with Prima, Catherine shared that she has had a rollercoaster journey with her body, which is similar to many women. She struggled significantly following the birth of her second child.
I find the term ‘spring back’ uncomfortable to use because it implies you’ve accomplished something extraordinary, but let me be forthright: I didn’t feel like my usual self during that time. I felt physically unwell, I felt weak, I felt exposed. I was suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum, a severe form of morning sickness, and had chronic illness and pregnancy-related insomnia.
The situation had become critical as the doctor told me, “It’s necessary for us to take action as your current state of living is extremely poor.” At that point, I was struggling tremendously with my mental health due to sleeping only a couple of hours each night.
In that very interview, Catherine herself shared that under the perfect plot twist, I’d jump at the chance to revisit the magical world of Coronation Street once more!
From 2011 to 2018, the actress portrayed Eva Price in the ITV daytime series. Her character experienced numerous intense plotlines while she was a part of the ITV program.
Catherine shared with the media outlet that she cherishes her memories of the soap, and although she’s been invited back by superiors on multiple occasions, she’s generally been occupied with various other commitments instead.
Ever since I parted ways with Corrie, I’ve had the privilege of gracing the screens on BBC One for the series Scarborough, taking on a role in Channel 5’s drama The Good Ship Murder, and even stepping onto the dance floor for the 2019 season of Strictly Come Dancing.
Following Catherine, the children were pictured cuddled up beside their festive Christmas tree in an endearing Instagram post.
The star was stunning in a shimmering gold sweater, while her son wore a soccer jersey, and her young daughter dressed up as a character from Frozen.
In the valuable moments we shared during Christmas, we hardly took any pictures. Typically, we’re snap-happy with our cameras throughout the day! (This version retains the original meaning while making it more conversational and easier to read.)
At first, I told Tom, “There are barely any photos! I’m really disappointed.” However, upon reflection, I understood that was due to the fact that we were immersed in each and every moment – truly living in the present.
Instead of cherishing photographs so much, appreciate the actual presence…It’s priceless compared to a million pictures. I prefer capturing moments with my emotions.
Before the children dashed away to enjoy more playthings, we captured an image of them near the tree. Additionally, we gathered a few miscellaneous items.
The February 2025 issue of Prima is on sale now.
