Catherine Tate and Mathew Horne’s 0%-rated comedy is now on Netflix
As a gamer with a soft spot for British comedies, I must say that my journey through the world of entertainment has led me to some amusing and not-so-amusing destinations. The latest addition to this rollercoaster ride is “The Nan Movie,” which, much like the infamous video game glitches I’ve encountered, left me scratching my head in bewilderment.
This Christmas, Mathew Horne returns to our television screens for the last-ever episode of “Gavin & Stacey.” Before that, you might want to catch a lesser-known comedic performance by him.
In the United Kingdom, “The Nan Movie” hit the big screens in March 2022. It is a standalone production, stemming from the popular TV series “The Catherine Tate Show“, featuring its iconic character, Nan, embarking on a road trip with her patient grandson Jamie (played by Horne), to visit her ailing sister.
It’s fair to conclude that the film didn’t receive positive reviews from critics, given its persistent 0% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
However, you have the freedom to judge whether “The Nan Movie” warrants that rating, as it has just become accessible for viewing on Netflix in both the UK and Ireland. The film was added to the streaming platform today, specifically December 17th.
In “The Nan Movie,” we find Tate portraying Nan, but this time as a younger character during World War II. Here, she encounters an American soldier named Walter, played by Parker Sawyers. However, her younger sister Nell, played by Katherine Parkinson, creates a complication in their relationship.
Besides me, this film features acting talents like Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, Jack Doolan, Niky Wardley, Rosalie Craig, and Claudie Blakley, along with a few other noteworthy performers.
In “The Nan Movie,” another familiar face is Pete Bennett, the previous winner of “Big Brother. He disclosed that following the removal of his most significant scene, he had received an apology from Tate.
Shortly before the movie was released, I received an extremely sorry email from Catherine Tate. In it, she explained that due to strictly technical issues, our shared elevator scene had been removed from the film. To this day, she still expresses regret about it.
She asked me to attend the premiere, and I decided to go. I ended up watching the movie, and I must admit, it was quite entertaining. I even chuckled quite a bit.
Would you feel the same about the film now that you can personally watch “The Nan Movie” on Netflix?
