Catherine O’Hara has power, Kathryn Hahn wants money: ‘The Studio’ team tells all at SXSW
In Austin, Texas – Drawing inspiration from the 1992 film “The Player” by Robert Altman, Apple TV+’s contemporary comedy series titled “The Studio” tackles a timeless theme – the inner workings of Hollywood – and brings it up-to-date for today’s generation.
In this series, Seth Rogen portrays Matt Remick, a studio head who juggles his passion for cinema with the pressures of work. The show humorously tackles themes such as corporate property rights and intrusive executives, creating both laughter (high comedy) and tension (high stress). “The Studio” also includes Catherine O’Hara as Remick’s recently fired predecessor, Ike Barinholtz as his debauched coworker and closest friend, Kathryn Hahn as the demanding marketing director, and Chase Sui Wonders as a fresh member of the studio’s development team.
Prior to the launch of the series on March 26, the creators of the show recently visited the L.A. Times studio during SXSW to talk about how the relationship between actors and executives has changed over time, common misconceptions people have about studio heads, and why streaming platforms are no longer considered underdogs in the modern Hollywood landscape.
