With Superman now playing in cinemas and Man of Tomorrow already in the works, some of the most promising projects in the DC Universe are actually the ones James Gunn isn’t writing or directing himself. This is definitely true for Lanterns, and it’s a big reason why this series is such an exciting development for the DCU.
While simple, optimistic main characters work well in many shonen anime, it’s not true that all shonen heroes are one-dimensional. Plenty of shonen series feature complex, well-developed characters with believable flaws and compelling growth throughout the story.

It’s remained at number one ever since, even surpassing other animated films like Swapped, which currently ranks as Netflix’s top movie worldwide. While GOAT is mainly found on HBO Max outside the U.S., it’s the second most popular movie there as of May 17th, only behind Margot Robbie’s Wuthering Heights.
