Cate Blanchett’s video game flop Borderlands becomes a streaming hit

Despite Cate Blanchett’s film adaptation of “Borderlands” underperforming at the box office, there seems to be a growing interest among viewers to watch it through their streaming subscriptions instead.

This week, the 2024 movie produced by Eli Roth, which is an adaptation of the Gearbox Software game series, has been added to Prime Video UK and is currently their top-viewed film in the country (ranking fourth overall, with TV shows Reacher, Invincible, and Doubters to Believers – Liverpool FC: Klopp’s Era being ahead of it).

The movie flopped spectacularly at the box office, earning only $33 million while its production cost is said to have exceeded $100 million.

Despite boasting an impressive lineup with Cate Blanchett, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black, the production didn’t fare well in its review.

Critics panned the movie quite harshly initially, giving it a low rating of 7% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, over time, it has managed to improve its score slightly, now standing at 10%.

According to Digital Spy’s assessment, the movie “Borderlands” squanders its talented cast due to a feeble script and diluted humor. In our opinion, the film appears tailored for younger audiences, but even if that’s the case, it doesn’t justify the absence of humor and well-rounded characters. Regrettably, these shortcomings can’t be compensated by the stunning visuals…

Borderlands seems to be shaping up for an over-the-top, action-packed adventure. However, it appears to be a tiresome journey across a loud, sandy wasteland filled with costumed role players instead.

The action-adventure film based on the popular video game, “Uncharted”, is now accessible for home viewing, as Channel 4’s streaming platform is offering a free screening of the movie featuring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg.
