Cat Deeley reveals she'd 'walk away' from her job if her mental health began to suffer - as she discusses toxic working culture rumours at This Morning

As a seasoned broadcaster myself, I can empathize with Cat Deeley’s sentiments about the impact of social media. Having been in the public eye for decades, I’ve learned that it’s essential to shield oneself from the relentless barrage of opinions, especially when they are not entirely constructive.

Cat Deeley has revealed she’d quit her job for the sake of her mental health.

This year, the presenter, aged 47, along with his fellow actor Ben Shephard, 49, took over the hosting roles previously held by Holly Willoughby and Phil Schofield following their departure in a turbulent situation last year.

In her new prominent position, Cat shared with Grazia Magazine that she is not afraid to leave a job if her health or overall wellness is at risk.

Meanwhile, Cat opened up about the rumours of toxic culture on This Morning, insisting that she’d seen nothing that could back the hearsay up.

In the latest interview, Cat discussed if she experienced feelings of ‘exposure’ or vulnerability as she took over from Holly, considering the harrowing events of her predecessor’s abduction and stalking.

In the previous year, Holly, who is 43 years old, was compelled to resign from This Morning following a distressing kidnapping scare. The ordeal stemmed from the calculated plans of stalker Gavin Plumb, who intended to abduct, assault, and murder her.

As an ardent admirer, let me share a profound insight from the inspiring figure I follow: “I’m not someone who gets easily overwhelmed. I always prioritize my mental wellbeing above all else. If a situation were to drain me or if work started feeling like a burden, I wouldn’t hesitate to step back and take a breather. It’s crucial for me to find joy in what I do.

In our conversation, Cat mentioned the whispers about a supposedly harmful work environment on This Morning. These rumors emerged following Dr Ranj’s criticism of the alleged toxic culture at the ITV daytime program, after the controversy surrounding Phillip’s inappropriate relationship with a younger team member.

The former television physician alleged that he was forced to leave the program following his complaints to the highest echelons of ITV, which further fuels speculation among executives as to their level of awareness and timing.

After making his assertions, Philip released a statement firmly denying any presence of ‘toxicity’ on the set of This Morning. His previous colleague, Eamonn Holmes, responded by labeling him as ‘delusional’.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve certainly come across tales like the one you mentioned. Personally, I can only share my observations, for the events prior to my arrival remain unknown. So far, in my experience with Ben and the situation we found ourselves in, I haven’t observed any hint of those stories being true.

Rather than dwelling on past struggles, Cat has immersed herself wholeheartedly into her role. On-screen, she exudes an aura of self-assurance and proficiency, but off-screen, she confides that it wasn’t always smooth sailing as she recounts how she was quite ‘awkward’ in the early stages of her career.

At only 21 years old, Cat got a job co-hosting SM:TV Live with Ant and Dec. She also mentioned that if she were judged by viewers as harshly as she sometimes is on This Morning, it would be difficult for her to “persevere through that.

Although her stint on the ITV daytime program generally brings about positive experiences, there are instances when she encounters harsh remarks on social media. However, this celebrity shared that she prefers to avoid such interactions as they aren’t beneficial for her mental health.

She clarified: ‘It’s not played a significant role in my life. I believe it might not be entirely beneficial, especially for the young. If you begin to fret about what others think, it can lead to a paralysis of sorts, making you hesitant to act due to fear of making mistakes.’

Cat shared her thoughts following her and Ben’s experience of being overlooked by The National Television Awards on This Morning this year.

The ITV programme lost out to The Chase for the Daytime Award on Wednesday night.

In response to the cold shoulder shown during the program, the hosts expressed to their audience that they could use a comforting embrace following a rather late evening.

Starting off the broadcast, Ben mentioned that he had donned a comfortable cardigan as it seemed appropriate given that they all needed a comforting embrace due to the late hour.

In response, the cat commented, “It’s quite a distance.” Later, Ben chimed in with, “That’s only true if you reside on the opposite side.

Later on, he disclosed, “We truly enjoyed it. The event was absolutely delightful and heartwarming, sharing moments with the team. Alison and Dermott, we shared some fantastic laughter as they sat right in front of us. Alison, you’re quite a charmer and hard to ignore.

As a united group, I confess, we tended to find ourselves in the mischievous section. When assembled together in such a way, it was undeniably us who were the playful troublemakers.

However, the viewers showed scant empathy towards the show’s demise, stating that it had taken a turn for the worse.

Speaking about X (previously known as Twitter), the audience seemed unfazed by the show’s slight, offering minimal empathy in their responses.
