Chicago Fire is prepping Jake Lockett’s Carver for a 2025 exit, leaving many fans asking why. 

Over time, NBC’s firefighting drama has seen quite a few well-known actors join and depart. This pattern has left some viewers wondering which familiar face might leave next.

In this current season, there have been whispers about which character might be departing, and one name that has frequently surfaced is Jake Lockett’s character, Sam Carver (also known as Carver). This speculation intensified following his struggle with addiction in Season 13, and subsequent journey through recovery.

Why Is Carver Leaving Chicago Fire?

Sadly for fans, it has already been confirmed that Carver will leave Chicago Fire in 2025. 

This event isn’t directly linked to a particular plot point (but one might be developed later), but rather it’s due to factors unrelated to the series itself.

Based on an article published in April 2025 by Deadline, the characters played by Jake Lockett (Carver) and Daniel Kyri (Darren Ritter) are set to depart from the series following the conclusion of Season 13, regardless of whether or not a Season 14 is commissioned.

The cause of Carver leaving was because of financial reductions affecting NBC and the broader TV sector, which particularly affected Chicago Fire and related shows.

In simpler terms, the upcoming seasons of shows like “Chicago Fire” on NBC may have lower budgets for production. This could necessitate adjustments in contract negotiations with the actors as their new contracts are being discussed.

It is thought that Lockett’s exit (which also means Carver’s exit) from the show might be because of the show’s tighter budget, leading to their character being among those affected by the cost cuts in the upcoming seasons.

Assuming there will be a Season 14 of Chicago Fire, since as of now, it hasn’t been officially confirmed but industry sources suggest that it might get renewed for additional episodes.

Despite the confirmation that Carver will depart during the Chicago Fire 2025 season, it is important to note that his character has not yet been written off or killed from the series.

Despite the initial success, Carver’s situation remained uncertain once more, as rumors spread about his supposed death during a firefight that resulted in a fellow firefighter sustaining severe injuries due to a collapsing, deteriorating roof.

In the end, Carver managed to get away from the fire unharmed, while it was his brother, Damon, who suffered the tragic consequences.

The character’s departure is approaching, but hasn’t happened yet. Carver has been shown in promotional content for future episodes of the popular show, implying that his time in the “One Chicago” world (at least for now) still continues.

Due to the intense emotional journey Carver has taken “Chicago Fire” viewers on in recent times, it seems probable that his departure from the show will be a heart-wrenching farewell as we approach the end of the season, thereby marking the start of the series’ next phase without Carver.
