A classic Cartoon Network series is back in regular rotation.
Cartoon Network, now part of Warner Bros. Discovery, first launched in 1992 and quickly became known for its original shows like Dexter’s Laboratory, Cow and Chicken, I Am Weasel, Johnny Bravo, and The Powerpuff Girls. Other popular series included Ed, Edd n Eddy, Courage the Cowardly Dog, and Codename: Kids Next Door. Today, the network continues to create original programming, with shows like The Amazing World of Gumball and We Baby Bears. Recently, another beloved classic Cartoon Network series has made a comeback, becoming a hit with viewers around the world.
Nine years after it initially went off the air, Regular Show: The Lost Tapes is back and proving popular with viewers around the world. This revival of J.G. Quintel’s Regular Show – which ran from 2010 to 2017 – premiered on May 11th and continues to follow the everyday lives and adventures of Mordecai and Rigby, a blue jay and raccoon who work as groundskeepers at a park.
As a huge fan of Regular Show, I was thrilled to see that Regular Show: The Lost Tapes is already doing so well! As of today, May 19th, it’s landed at number 3 on HBO Max’s Top 10 list globally. It’s right behind Euphoria at number one and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage in second place. Honestly, it’s beating out a lot of other popular shows – it’s ahead of Half Man, Rooster, From, Wild Heart, Hacks, Song of the Samurai, and Doc, which is in tenth place. That’s awesome!
This week, Regular Show: The Lost Tapes is a top 10 TV show on HBO Max in an impressive 44 countries around the world. That includes places across Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Oceania, like Argentina, Brazil, France, Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
The park is also home to a colorful cast of characters, including Benson, Mordecai and Rigby’s easily frustrated boss (a gumball machine voiced by Sam Marin), Pops, the park’s owner who is shaped like a lollipop (also voiced by Marin), and their colleagues: Skips, a yeti voiced by Mark Hamill; Muscle Man (Marin); and Hi-Five Ghost (Quintel).
Currently, “Regular Show: The Lost Tapes” has only one review on Rotten Tomatoes. Chris Gallardo from Tell-Tale TV says the show keeps the quirky humor of the original Cartoon Network series while also showing promise for fresh ideas.
He adds that Regular Show‘s humor remains consistently silly and unpredictable, mixing its strange, dreamlike style with a lively pace, and that the jokes still land well. While it doesn’t have an official audience score yet with fewer than 50 user ratings, Regular Show: The Lost Tapes is clearly popular with viewers based on how well it’s performing on streaming platforms.
