Carrie Underwood’s Heartfelt Tribute to Randy Travis Leaves Fans in Tears at Opry 100
Overwhelmed country music enthusiasts found themselves shedding tears as Carrie Underwood made a heartfelt gesture during her performance at the Opry 100: A Live Celebration in Nashville, Tennessee on Wednesday night.
In a heartfelt homage, the 42-year-old country artist performed two of her mentor, Randy Travis’s songs – “Three Wooden Crosses” and “Forever and Ever, Amen”. She ended this emotional tribute by singing directly to him in the audience at the Grand Ole Opry’s Ryman Auditorium.
In a surprising moment, Carrie handed the microphone to the 65-year-old country vet, who then belted out the final ‘Amen.’ This spontaneous performance brought the audience to their feet during the live broadcast on NBC and Peacock, causing an impromptu standing ovation.
2013 saw Randy’s speech skills significantly impaired following his aphasia diagnosis, which came after a nearly fatal stroke he experienced that year.
Later, Underwood moved closer to embrace a radiant Travis, as the latter exuded immense pride due to his previous student’s impressive three-octave vocal range in the soprano category.
17 years ago, the six-time Grammy Award recipient astonished the eight-time Grammy Award recipient in the same venue by asking her to join their ranks, referring to it as ‘being welcomed into the family.’
