Carrie Bickmore left red-faced after ‘awkward’ backstage meet and greet with Mariah Carey

Carrie Bickmore finally got to meet someone she’s always admired, but the experience wasn’t quite what she expected.

The former television personality posted a photo on Instagram Tuesday of herself meeting Mariah Carey backstage. Carey is currently touring Australia as part of the Fridayz Live festival.

I have to say, seeing that photo felt a little strange. The Aussie personality just looked so uncomfortable, and it was clear the singer was actually turning away as the picture was being taken. It just didn’t feel very natural, you know?

Carrie shared a photo and wrote, ‘It was a little chaotic, but I absolutely loved meeting them!’ expressing her excitement over encountering the famous singer.

Lots of fans commented that the unusual-looking photo was likely because Mariah was posing to show off her best angle.

‘She was posing with her good side! So lucky!’ one person guessed.

Another added: ‘She didn’t snub you, you just chose to stand on the wrong side haha.’

Others were quick to point out that Mariah looked like a wax figure in the uncomfortable snap.

‘Looks like “Madame Tussauds,’ another proposed, with one person suggesting: ‘Wax museum?’ 

Mariah has recently performed concerts in several Australian cities, including Brisbane, Sydney, Perth, and Melbourne.

Australian fans at Mariah Carey’s Sydney concert at ENGIE Stadium were disappointed with her performance, describing it as flat and lacking energy. Many wondered why she didn’t seem to be putting in her usual effort.

It was awful to see her like that, and I really felt bad for her. She appeared very sad and sick,” a concert attendee shared with the Daily Mail.

I was too down to buy a T-shirt for her, so I got one for myself from Fridayz instead. It seemed like she wasn’t actually singing live and kept leaving the stage between songs.

People began to wonder if the artist, who has won six Grammy Awards, was well enough to perform that evening.

I couldn’t make out what she was saying, and honestly, I wouldn’t spend money to go to her concert. It’s not that I want to be unkind, but I’m genuinely concerned she isn’t doing well and needs to take care of herself, they explained.

Observers noticed Mariah seemed unusually still during her performance. It appeared she had difficulty moving or fully opening her eyes, and she kept adjusting or looking at her earpiece.

‘She didn’t look comfortable. I’ve since seen she has arthritis and that makes sense.

She seemed really uncomfortable and withdrawn. She barely smiled and avoided eye contact with the audience, mostly looking down as if reading the words to the song.

Someone else commented online, saying the performance was difficult to watch and they left before it finished.

‘Why is she walking in slow motion?’ a different fan asked.
