Carolyn Wiger’s Custody Battle Heats Up After Leaving Abusive Partner

Actress Carolyn Wiger from “The Traitors” is currently facing a contentious child custody dispute with her former partner, Michael Boche. Despite her efforts to continue participating in the Peacock competition series while maintaining her secret status as a traitor, this legal battle has come to light.

38-year-old ex-Survivor finalist openly discusses her previous abusive relationship with her ex on social media, following their separation.

Last year, on this very day, I escaped the horrors of my toxic relationship – a year ago I walked away from my abusive past. (Instagram post from July 2024)

Over the past year, I’ve experienced all the feelings that come with it as a means to fully recover. I’ve understood that life doesn’t have to pause during hardship, and now, I find myself simply living on.

A couple of months down the line, she posted a picture showcasing a fresh tattoo on her neck symbolizing ‘recovery and fresh starts.’

She stated, “Since being in an abusive relationship feels like a persistent stranglehold, I’ve been liberated for eight months now. My cherished blossoms symbolize healing and fresh starts, wrapped around my neck.

‘Welcome to the continuous growth and healing era. You’re not alone.’

According to an exclusive report by DailyMail.com, although she has physically separated from her ex-partner Michael, whom she did not marry, a lengthy custody battle involving them has been ongoing in a Minnesota court since September 2023.

In simpler terms, Michael, who is 37 years old, recently submitted a request for child custody of their 11-year-old son, Luca. This petition was made approximately two months after Carolyn left. The request includes temporary shared legal and physical custody, with an equal division of time spent with each parent as part of the arrangement.

He requested Carolyn ‘undergo a psychological evaluation and a hair follicle test.’

In August 2023, a Protection Order was established to safeguard Carolyn from any harm by Michael. This order does not involve their son and remains active until August 2025, thus ensuring her protection for the next two years.

In essence, Carolyn requested temporary full legal and physical custody of the child, with monitored or unrestricted visitation rights for Michael, contingent on specific terms, as well as child support, all outlined in her court filing from January 2024.

In a ruling made in March, the court awarded temporary full legal and physical custody to Carolyn solely, based on their determination that she has been Luca’s primary caregiver since birth, while Michael has been an active parent.

In the March 2024 submission, Michael was granted temporary, unscheduled visitation rights for three hours during a weekday evening and one whole day over the weekend. However, as the judge specified, these terms might be adjusted after two months if Michael fails a hair follicle drug test.

As an ardent admirer pouring over the exclusive findings from DailyMail.com, it’s clear that the papers convey, “Though I acknowledge the Petitioner’s potential for excellent parenthood, I harbor reservations about my own mental wellbeing and temper issues.

Carolyn provided the court with several affidavits, some of which have been sealed. These affidavits contain instances where Michael allegedly used abusive and threatening language towards her, as well as evidence that he damaged her property, such as smashing furniture and making holes in the walls of the shared residence.

As a fervent admirer, I can’t help but feel a mix of relief and apprehension. On one hand, the court suggests that he’s found peace somewhere else – a notion that brings a glimmer of hope to my heart. However, their concern about his anger issues and potential for dangerous behavior casts a shadow over this optimistic thought. I fervently hope for his well-being and growth, yet remain cautious about the path ahead.

Carolyn shared an Instagram video showcasing her damaged wall, with a spilled plant scattering across the floor and various items strewn about on it.

She titled the December 2023 video, ‘I once believed that such a thing wouldn’t affect me. Yet, amidst the deepest struggles of my existence, I discovered hope.’

‘Anyone can experience abuse, but remember, you don’t have to face it alone. What truly matters is how you choose to cope and conquer it.’

In the court’s decision, it was determined that Carolyn was exempt from undergoing a psychological evaluation and a hair follicle test because she has remained sober for several years now – she recently celebrated 15 years of sobriety last May – and has held a job as a Chemical Abuse Counselor for many years.

In their ruling, the court observed that Carolyn, who had been working as a drug counselor since 2012, chose to quit her position to participate in Survivor instead.

According to the court records, she currently performs cameo videos based on her Survivor fame and has also launched a business as a life coach. It’s mentioned that her average monthly income is anticipated to be under $7,000, representing her projected earnings for the year 2023.

As a diligent follower, I’d like to highlight that the documents detail a unique financial reward of $85,000, bestowed by Survivor, and an extra accolade of $100,000 from Sia. Both these amounts were subject to taxation.

In March 2023, season 44 of Survivor aired, and Carolyn finished in third place. Instead of winning the grand prize of one million dollars that went to Yamil ‘Yam Yam’ Arocho, she took home $85,000 as her winnings.

Moreover, Carolyn has been annually gifted $100,000 by the Australian singer Sia since 2016, and this generous donation continued up until 2024 as a regular practice on the show.

Initially, Michael was ordered to provide temporary child support to Carolyn at a rate of $889 per month. However, this amount was subsequently adjusted downwards to $795 per month effective from the third month of payments, which would approximately fall in June 2024.

In November 2024, documents were submitted to the court that outline a dispute between the parties regarding the role of an expert witness in the case, which is currently under discussion.

As a lifestyle expert, I firmly believe that transparency is key. In my professional opinion, I should have been made aware of Luca’s expert witness interview before it was arranged, and it should never proceed without my prior approval.

She aims to impose restrictions on Michael’s capacity to offer professional testimony during the upcoming trial, concerning the child’s preferred choice of custody and visitation schedule.

The court made it clear that Carolyn is not allowed to prevent the Petitioner from presenting evidence about the child’s preference during the trial.

Therefore, the court is advocating that former partners should reach an agreement about whether any expert testimonies are acceptable before the trial takes place.

I regret to say that due to an impasse between the involved parties, I find myself unwillingly caught up in the legal proceedings, a situation I wish was not the case regarding this particular issue with Luca.

Nevertheless, it is crucial that Michael gets a chance to argue his point. The court trusts in the expertise and professionalism of the witness to ensure that Luca remains shielded from unnecessary involvement in the ongoing custody proceedings.

The court is allowing a second interview ‘of reasonable length.’

As an utterly devoted fan, I can’t help but eagerly anticipate the unfolding of this custody case! There’s a significant milestone approaching – a motion hearing slated for later this very month. Beyond that, the calendar is marked with another major event: a planned three-day trial set for May 2025! The countdown begins…

In an attempt to get their perspective, the DailyMail.com team contacted the legal representatives of Michael Boche and Carolyn Wiger regarding this specific news item.

In a statement given to DailyMail.com, Carolyn’s lawyer explained that Carolyn is focusing on what’s best for her young child. Although Carolyn deeply cares about helping women in similar situations, she currently cannot provide any comments due to the need to protect her child’s privacy.

‘Regarding any claims concerning this issue, we’ll handle them using the proper judicial avenues. Trust us, the legal system is designed to ensure a balanced and righteous resolution. For now, please respect Carolyn’s request for seclusion as she navigates through this challenging period with her family.’

In response to a request from DailyMail.com, Michael’s lawyer stated that Michael is currently taking legal action against the false and defaming accusations of domestic abuse made by Ms. Wiger.

Therefore, Mr. Boche refutes all claims of mistreatment. It appears that Ms. Wiger might be leveraging these accusations to boost her own reputation and prominence.

In a different legal case, Michael initiated a reconciliation lawsuit in November 2023, aiming to have the court settle the financial disagreements he had with Carolyn regarding their house’s mortgage, utility bills, HOA dues, and shared personal possessions.

In February 2024, Carolyn submitted a counterclaim stating that some of her property, worth approximately $2,475, was in Michael’s house. This included a kitchen table and chairs valued at $800, an entertainment center worth $300, and a couch valued at $100, specifically an orange one.

As a diligent follower, I too have learned that she alleges he neglected to settle his mortgage payments amounting to $2,316 and $439.79 in utility bills. She has proposed two solutions: either he restores the property or he settles an approximate total of $5,300, which includes the property’s value and additional costs.

Following the submission of her rebuttal, both Michael’s initial claims and Carolyn’s counterarguments were permanently rejected.

In the court’s ruling, it was determined that there was no clear understanding between the parties as to who should handle the mortgage payments, utility bills, and HOA fees after their relationship terminated.

In addition, the court determined that there was no agreement on Michael’s part about paying these bills, and he did not provide sufficient evidence to support his case.

The court added that following her move-out, Carolyn repeatedly returned to the house, but she never claimed ownership of the items she asked for.

During this ongoing legal dispute, Carolyn shared a video on Instagram where she was out shopping for furniture, accompanied by the tune of Kelly Clarkson’s song ‘Stronger’.

She titled the video, “When your former partner sells off the remaining furniture after you requested it, yet calls the police if you visit your property, claiming it’s abandoned, even though they refused to vacate.

Following her stint on Survivor, Carolyn was part of the season 3 lineup for The Traitors. This group filmed their episodes during the summer of 2024 in Ardross Castle, Scotland. The series debuted on January 9, 2025.

Following the airing of episode 7 on February 6, only seven contestants are left in the competition: Traitors Carolyn Reyes and Danielle Reyes, along with Faithfuls Sam Asghari, Dolores Catania, Dylan Efron, Britney Haynes, Ciara Miller, Lord Ivar Mountbatten, Tom Sandoval, Chrishell Stause, and Gabby Windey.
