Carol Kirkwood, 63, confesses there is ‘no such thing as a perfect romance’ after revealing her plans to retire and travel Europe with her husband Steve Randall, 49

Carol Kirkwood admitted that there’s no ideal romantic relationship, following her announcement of retiring within the next two years to explore Europe alongside her spouse, Steve Randall.

In December 2023, the long-time BBC weatherman, who was 63 years old at the time, wed a police officer named Steve, aged 49. This union took place nine years following the divorce of this woman and her former husband, property developer Jimmy Kirkwood.

Now, she’s openly confessed to believing that there’s no ideal romance, as she shared details of her divorce with the Daily Mirror.

As a lifestyle expert, I can honestly say that I share the sentiment expressed by many when relationships come to an end. Having experienced the dissolution of my own marriage in the past, I understand the pain and sadness that accompanies such events. It’s never easy when love stories don’t have the happily-ever-after ending we all hope for.

Well, it’s important to note that an ideal romance, free from disagreements and misunderstandings, simply doesn’t exist in reality. Life is full of ups and downs, and even the strongest relationships will face their share of challenges.

In the heart of Buckinghamshire, Carol and her partner Steve, with a difference of thirteen years between them, exchanged vows in a private wedding ceremony in December 2023.

Her remark follows her disclosure that she intends to retire within just two years, allowing her to embark on a journey towards the setting sun alongside her police officer spouse.

For the past 27 years, this television personality has been a stalwart at the BBC, but when she reaches 65, she intends to switch up their surroundings with Steve, her companion.

In conversation about her future plans, particularly her retirement aspirations, Carol – who is an accomplished author – expressed that she and her partner have developed a deep fondness for the beautiful island of Majorca. It was here where she penned her fifth novel, “Meet Me at Sunset”, a story centered around a woman escaping from a broken love affair.

‘Steve and I plan to escape and travel for some time when we retire, perhaps in a year or two.

‘We’ll travel in a camper van or get in the car, cross over to France and then just drive.’

As a devoted follower, I hail from Morar, Lochaber, and I was once joined in matrimony with Jimmy, a property developer. However, our union came to an end in 2008 after 18 fruitful years, and the legal dissolution of our marriage was completed in 2012.

More recently, she playfully remarked regarding her second marriage, saying to a publication: “Love tastes sweeter for the second serving. I want to clarify that my first husband was wonderful, but this time feels even better.

In 1998, Carol, who had previously been a secretary at the BBC, transitioned to the BBC News team after gaining experience with the Met Office. She also appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2015.

She frequently graces the screens of BBC Weather, whether it’s on radio or television broadcasts, and serves as the primary weather anchor for BBC Breakfast.

Additionally, the television personality openly discussed the age disparity in her romance, emphasizing that it holds no significance for her.

In a conversation with Saga Magazine, she stated, “This year, Steve turns 50. Regardless of others’ views on age differences, I don’t perceive him as being younger than myself.

She also said she believes that meeting him was fate.

She mentioned that we attended an event neither of us enjoyed being at. It felt like a pivotal moment, similar to the movie Sliding Doors; if I hadn’t been there, our paths wouldn’t have crossed.

In a different conversation, she shared: “A second chance at love can be even more beautiful than the first.

‘The wedding was the most perfect day. Storm Gerrit was raging outside and we didn’t even notice.

Instead, we prioritized our marriage over an extravagant wedding ceremony. There were no attendees present, and we personally crafted our own heartfelt vows.

‘When you are older, you know more what you want.’
