Cardi B denies touching security guard who is suing for assault but says she did curse at her

On Tuesday, Cardi B declared under oath that she did not physically harm, scratch, or spit on a security guard who has filed a lawsuit against her, claiming an attack by the singer outside a gynecologist’s office in Beverly Hills.

In a civil trial at Alhambra court, Cardi B (whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar) appeared on the second day as a defendant. She firmly denied allegations of assaulting Emani Ellis on February 24, 2018. During this incident, Cardi B was visiting an obstetrician’s office on the fifth floor and was four months pregnant with her first child at the time.

Cardi B emphasized that what occurred was a non-physical altercation. She clarified that neither she nor the other person involved made physical contact. In her view, since there was no touching involved, it was not an actual incident to her.

The rapper stated that they had a confrontation with another person in the hallway near the doctor’s office, where she allegedly swore at a security guard after suspecting that Ellis was secretly filming her with a mobile phone.

“Was there spitting?” the security guard’s lawyer, Ron Rosen, asked.

“Absolutely not,” Cardi B replied.

“Did you call her the N-word?”

“No,” the performer replied, noting that she considers herself “Afro-Caribbean.”

“Did you take a swing at her?” Rosen followed up.

“No,” replied Cardi B, who insisted it was a “verbal fight. … It did not get physical at all.”

Rosen explored the distinction between a physical brawl and a heated discussion, questioning if his interaction with the pop star at that moment could be classified as an argument. Cardi B responded by saying they were merely exchanging opinions, a comment that caused amusement in the courtroom.

The lawyer countered, “We’re debating about whether you assaulted and battered Ms. Emani Ellis?”

Cardi B responded, “It seems that way,” but she insisted, “I didn’t lay a hand on her. She didn’t touch me either.” Regarding the incident, the musician stated that there are no recordings available.

Back in 2020, I took a stand and decided to file a lawsuit. I claimed that I was subjected to assault, battery, and emotional distress, intentionally inflicted upon me, as well as neglect and false confinement.

During his testimony on Monday, the security guard, Ellis, stated that he was patrolling the building where Cardi B had a medical appointment. He claimed to have seen Cardi B step out of an elevator, at which point his excitement took over and he exclaimed, “Wow, it’s Cardi B.

In simpler terms, Ellis stated that after the performer faced her, they asked, “What’s your reason for informing others that you’ve witnessed me?” Cardi B subsequently claimed that this person was attempting to disseminate information about her visiting a doctor’s office, according to her testimony.

In simpler terms, Cardi B is accused of using offensive language, including the N-word and other derogatory slurs, hurling insults, threatening employment, body-shaming, and mocking someone’s career, according to Ellis. The accusations also include spitting on her, attempting to physically attack her, and leaving a scratch on her left cheek with a long fingernail.

Upon exiting the elevator, Cardi B overheard Ellis calling out her name. She then noticed that Ellis was holding a phone, at which point she inquired, “Why are you filming me?” The guard apologized, but persisted in following her, asserting that he had the authority to do so.

Cardi B stated that she got very close to Ellis and did use profanity, but she never physically harmed the security guard who was much larger than her. However, when the receptionist from the obstetrician’s office appeared later, the guard claimed that Cardi B had struck her, which Cardi B denies ever happening.

The rapper admitted that she had no evidence to support the claim that Ellis was secretly taping her. Instead, she maintained that her visits to the physician were private matters, as they pertained to her sensitive pregnancy concerns, which hadn’t been disclosed publicly at the time.

On the second court day, the outspoken rapper, recognized for her bold fashion decisions, sported a platinum showgirl coif – a striking change from the black short hair she wore during the initial hearing. When asked about it, she admitted both hairstyles were wigs and that she had added 1-inch long nail extensions.

Instead of admitting that she often sports nails ranging from 2 to 3 inches long, she clarified that occasionally she does wear such lengthy nails, but not always.
