On Wednesday, Cardi B once again took to the witness stand as part of a civil lawsuit filed by a security officer who claims that Cardi B physically attacked her in a 2018 altercation near the entrance of an obstetrician’s office in Beverly Hills. The alleged incident involved Cardi B scratching the security guard with one of her acrylic nails.
On Wednesday, the artist reportedly accused the defendant of attempting to extort money, with Emani Ellis claiming a sum of $24 million. However, Cardi B emphasized that their altercation only consisted of verbal arguments, with no further physical contact taking place.
Cardi B claimed on Wednesday that Emani Ellis is trying to extort money from her, with demands totaling $24 million. But the rapper insists that they only had a heated argument and did not engage in any physical altercation.
After Wednesday’s proceedings concluded, the defense has chosen not to present any further evidence. On Thursday, the jury in the courthouse of Alhambra will listen to the closing statements.
As a passionate movie buff, I’d put it this way: Just like in a film where one’s privacy is invaded, I’d say Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, famously known as Cardi B, made it clear under oath that she never resorted to physical altercations such as touching, scratching, or spitting at the security guard who, in her belief, was secretly recording her with his phone.
On Wednesday, her defense was strengthened by the testimonies of the obstetrician she consulted when she was four months pregnant (on February 24, 2018), who happened to be a rapper, and also from his receptionist.
The receptionist, Tierra Malcolm, informed the jury that she observed Cardi B being cornered by Ellis. Upon attempting to intervene, the security guard allegedly tried to grab Cardi B. According to Malcolm, this incident resulted in her sustaining a cut on her own forehead.
According to Dr. David Finke’s testimony, he observed the guard inflict that injury on someone and also strike the receptionist’s shoulder. Moreover, he stated that Cardi B did not have any visible injuries on her face. Both individuals testified that they never witnessed Cardi B striking the aforementioned person.
However, the rapper stated under oath that when a medical assistant inquired about the incident that day, Ellis replied, “She slapped me.” Yet, I was bewildered as… I did not strike you.
During questioning led by Ellis’ lawyer, the rapper admitted that they were very close together (probably standing face-to-face), while both of them were using offensive language towards each other.
In 2020, Ellis brought a lawsuit, claiming charges of assault, battery, intentional emotional harm, negligence, and wrongful confinement as well.
On Monday, a witness who works as a security guard at the building confirmed during her testimony that she had been on duty when she spotted Cardi B stepping out of an elevator. Excited by the sighting, she exclaimed, “Wow, it’s Cardi B!” while carrying out her usual patrol duties.
In simpler terms, Ellis claimed that after the artist spoke to her, she stated, “What’s your reason for telling others they’ve seen me?” Later on, Cardi B asserted that Ellis was trying to disseminate information about her visiting a doctor, as indicated in her testimony.
Cardi B reportedly resorted to profane language, including racial slurs and insults, threatened job security, body-shamed, and made fun of the woman’s career according to Ellis. Moreover, she claimed that Cardi B physically assaulted her by spitting, attempting to hit, and scratching her left cheek with a nail approximately 2 to 3 inches long.
During a court hearing on Wednesday, the rapper stated that she stands at 5 feet 3 inches tall, weighed approximately 130 pounds, and was pregnant at the time. She emphasized that under such circumstances, she would not have attempted to engage in a physical altercation with the guard, who was significantly larger than her.
In the midst of that event, as a pregnant woman, let me tell you, I was quite incapacitated, causing a bit of a chuckle in the courtroom. To list what I couldn’t do at that moment would have been an interesting exercise, don’t you think?
On that particular day, the office was only seeing one patient – Cardi B – because it had been closed to ensure her privacy, according to Malcolm.
Upon the occurrence of the event, the receptionist stated, “What made me quickly intervene was that I noticed Ms. Ellis right before her.” However, Malcolm clarified that he had not witnessed the whole exchange between them.
As she moved towards them, Malcolm stated that she (the woman) was looking at Ellis, who was extending his arms. Malcolm then mentioned that during this event, she received a scratch on her forehead.
As a moviegoer, I found myself seated with Cardi B right behind me during the screening. My initial thought was that perhaps it was Ms. Ellis, who was directly in front of me, given our seating arrangement. As the scene progressed, I noticed her hands attempting to maneuver over me. This is what I later testified to have occurred.
Inquired about whether Cardi B might have inflicted the wound with one of her nails, she responded, “However, she was standing behind me.” She stated that it was a nurse who spotted the cut on her forehead.
The doctor expressed astonishment at the accusations, as they didn’t align with what he observed on that particular day.”
This paraphrased sentence maintains the original meaning but uses simpler and more common words to improve readability.
Afterward, he mentioned that he eventually managed to convince Ellis to board the elevator and depart from the floor.
On Wednesday, Cardi B testified that her social media followers informed her that someone associated with the incident was active online. In response, she publicly denied the allegations as untrue.
On the third day of the trial, the bold-style rapper wore a long, sleek black wig. For the initial court session, she had short black hair, and on the second day, she sported a blonde, glamorous style reminiscent of a showgirl.
