The movie penned and directed by Joe DeBoer and Kyle McConaghy narrates the story of a postman who handles undeliverable mail. Reading a cryptic message, he embarks on a dangerous and unexpected journey.
Featuring Sterling Macer Jr., John Fleck, and Tomas Boykin, the suspenseful trailer opens as a character struggles to reach a mailbox to post a letter, but is then forcibly returned to confinement by an enigmatic figure. Apart from the trailer, it’s been officially announced that the movie “Dead Mail” will debut on Shudder’s streaming platform on April 18th.
In an isolated stretch of a rural Midwestern highway, a handcuffed individual is dragging himself forward, eventually pushing a note, stained with blood and begging for help, into a distant mailbox. Just as he does so, someone who appears frantic approaches from behind him.
In a 1980s midwest post office, a veteran investigator named Jasper receives an enigmatic letter. Unraveling its origin, the letter steers him on an unexpected, dangerous trajectory towards a missing keyboard engineer and his peculiar partner, who has been involved in a kidnapping case.
Since its initial release in March the previous year, the film “Dead Mail” has been receiving mostly favorable comments so far. It currently boasts an almost flawless approval score of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes based on its first 20 reviews.
According to the movie trailer, Collider found Dead Mail captivating and a fresh perspective in the horror genre. On the other hand, Bloody Disgusting commended the film for its skillful blending of genres and for revamping the 1980s aesthetic, labeling it as an engaging watch.
Screen Zealots praised the “uniquely vintage atmosphere” of the “quirkily unconventional” thriller, while ScreenAnarchy considered the movie to be an “outstanding demonstration” of the potential that “today’s independent film industry” holds.
