Captain America: Brave New World has a surprise cameo and Marvel fans are seriously divided
In the movie “Captain America: A Fresh Era,” there’s an unexpected appearance by Bucky Barnes, and Marvel enthusiasts are strongly divided over it.
In theaters now, we find Anthony Mackie starring in his debut standalone Marvel Cinematic Universe film, portraying Sam Wilson, who assumes the role of Captain America.
In the movie, Sebastian Stan briefly appears as Bucky Barnes (also known as the Winter Soldier), who is portrayed as a candidate for Congress.
Previously, the character had been manipulated by Nazis and played a role in the deaths of hundreds, among them Tony Stark’s parents. However, they later atoned for their actions.
On Reddit, fans have expressed a mix of puzzlement and excitement about Bucky’s recent professional decision in his career, with some stating they found the cameo perplexing.
One fan expressed confusion about the inclusion of Bucky in a cameo role, stating that it was challenging for them to accept the notion of Bucky holding a government position.
The supporter posed a question: “Would the general public and government truly trust an individual who had spent half a century as a hydra assassin, eliminating highly influential American figures such as Howard Stark?
Although I understand he was conditioned, it seems he can still be manipulated again. To me, it doesn’t seem like the best direction for Marvel to take such an intriguing character down this path…
As a fellow fan, I can’t help but express my puzzlement: “I just don’t understand why they slipped Bucky into the scene when what we’ve yearned for is a more substantial inclusion of other heroes in the MCU, especially considering these epic battles would have been ideal opportunities!” After all, we’ve been clamoring for Bruce to join the fray, but alas, we get glimpses of Bucky and even Betty instead. It seems like an unexpected twist in the grand scheme of things.
A viewer expressed disappointment with the film, yet appreciated the cameo, stating: “I made an effort to enjoy it, but it fell flat for me, undeniably mediocre. Each exciting scene or moment was already shown in the previews. It seemed as though the only surprising elements were, firstly: Bucky, which felt underwhelming yet one of the few well-written scenes in the movie.
Another fan commended the incorporation of Bucky, remarking: “Additionally, I found the guest appearances seamless. The hospital visit by Bucky Barnes was tastefully handled, as Bucky, Sam, and Joaquin had a shared history from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series.
One fan noted that the Bucky cameo was fantastic, praising the strong bond between Sam and Bucky. They felt a 5-minute segment beautifully showcased this connection.
Captain America: A New Era” premieres in movie theaters on February 14, 2025. The initial Captain America films and “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” can currently be streamed on Disney+.
