Captain America: Brave New World Conquers Streaming Charts Amid Disappointing Box Office Run
In the year 2025, I was thrilled to witness Marvel Studios’ initial launch, marking a new era for comic book adaptations. Their schedule featured an exciting lineup of three movies, and I eagerly awaited the premiere of the fourth Captain America film. However, the reception wasn’t entirely positive as it opened to mixed reviews, leaving fans and critics alike with a divided opinion.
The recently released movie focused on Anthony Mackie’s character Sam Wilson, who was previously known as Falcon, transitioning into the role of Captain America following Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers passing the shield in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. Released in theaters on Valentine’s Day, the film garnered mixed reviews but still managed to earn over $400 million and was mere millions shy of its peak success. While it didn’t entirely live up to audience expectations, Captain America: Brave New World has proven popular on streaming platforms, according to recent reports.
In less than two months following its theater debut, a month after becoming available on video-on-demand services, and merely two weeks since its 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD release dates, the superhero movie swiftly achieved success.
Ever since it dropped on Disney+, I’ve been riding high as Captain America: Brave New World has consistently reigned supreme in over 35 countries worldwide – including here in the US where it’s held tight to that top spot domestically.
As a gamer, I’d rephrase that as: “In ‘Captain America: Brave New World,’ Anthony Mackie steps into the spotlight for the first time in a leading role. The story revolves around Sam, who encounters newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross and gets caught up in an international crisis. He’s on a mission to uncover the secrets behind a sinister global scheme before it pushes the world towards chaos. Harrison Ford takes over from the late William Hurt as Ross, and the Red Hulk finally makes his grand entrance in the MCU. The film is masterfully directed by Julius Onah.
Captain America: Brave New World received varied responses upon release. Critics criticized the movie as being “too jam-packed,” awarding it a 48% approval rating, resulting in a “rotten” label. On the other hand, audiences appreciated it more, bestowing it with a lively 78% approval rating. The superhero film also made history, as it launched with a B-, which is the lowest score for any movie in the series to date.
As of 2025, “Captain America: Brave New World” stands third in terms of domestic box office earnings for the year, amassing approximately $413.6 million. Despite this impressive figure, it failed to surpass its projected break-even point of $425 million, a sum that would have covered both production and distribution expenses, along with marketing costs.
The MCU Continues
In the year 2025, “Captain America: Brave New World” was the initial Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) release. Subsequently came “Thunderbolts,” a movie that brought together multiple antiheroes from earlier films such as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier, Yelena Belova, and Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian. This year, the second MCU film was highly acclaimed but failed to boost ticket sales significantly. Despite having an identical budget as “Captain America: Brave New World,” it earned only $361.2 million globally, falling well short of its target of $425 million to break even. As of now, the superhero film is still screening in cinemas and is yet to be released on Disney+.
In this year, the third instalment lined up is titled “The Fantastic Four: First Steps“. This fresh release will introduce Marvel’s original superhero team, the Fantastic Four, into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It is one of the most eagerly awaited movies of 2025. Moreover, it marks the beginning of Phase Six in the MCU and is anticipated to establish the plot for the forthcoming “Avengers: Doomsday“. The premiere date for “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” is set for July 25.
Captain America: Brave New World is streaming on Disney+.
