Captain America 4 Home Release: Missing Scene Sparks Conspiracy Theories

Warning: Mild spoilers for Captain America: Brave New World are in play.

It’s astonishing to see what could be classified as a miracle in the 2025 movie lineup. The mere existence of “Captain America: Brave New World” for viewing feels like an achievement, given the intricate rumors surrounding director Julius Onah’s Marvel film. Upon rewatching the movie for its home release, there’s a scene that remains unseen which has me pondering old theories and even sparking fresh perspectives on a moment we haven’t witnessed yet.

Captain America 4’s Continued Omission Of That ‘Funeral Scene’ Is Kinda Weird

In the November 2024 trailer for Brave New World, it appears that Sam Wilson (played by Anthony Mackie) attends a formal funeral, complete with a 21-gun salute, a somber-looking Captain America, and cherry blossoms to symbolize mourning. This emotional scene seems reminiscent of similar moments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, this scene was not part of the actual film.

Just like many fans of media, I had high hopes that the deleted scenes for Captain America 4’s home release would feature the scene in question, maybe even some insight as to why it was removed. Unfortunately, I came up empty-handed on both counts. But thanks to a theory put forth by one of my peers, we might be able to construct some convincing arguments for its omission.

I Back The Theory That This Was President Ross’ State Funeral

In agreement with Adam Holmes’ theory in “Captain America: Brave New World”, I believe this funeral scene is for the character of President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, portrayed by Harrison Ford. Photos from the set hinting at Liv Tyler’s presence and careful analysis of trailers suggest that his heart condition may ultimately lead to his demise.

If you haven’t yet subscribed to Disney+ to watch Sam Wilson’s episodes and don’t want any spoilers, beware! I’m going to share some additional insights as to why that particular scene hasn’t been shown yet.

Marvel May Have Iced This Brave New World Scene For Two Big Reasons

It seems there are two primary explanations why Harrison Ford’s character survived in the final cut of Captain America: Brave New World, with the deleted scene in the Special Features section. Initially, considering Ross steps down from the presidency at the end of Brave New World, it leaves room for his imprisonment on The Raft to potentially set up a sequel or two.

Given Kevin Feige’s remarks about Marvel contracts showing a shift from lengthy deals, keeping the likes of Indiana Jones’ actor in your contact list as a potential recurring talent seems like an opportunity too good to miss. At the same time, I believe that Sam Wilson’s long-term character growth could be positively impacted by this decision.

The Disney Plus and Hulu Bundle offers a thrilling solution for just $10.99 per month ($19.99 if you prefer ad-free viewing). With this package, it’s time to conquer tedium! Although Captain America: Brave New World is yet to arrive, you can stream all the essential Marvel Cinematic Universe films to get ready for the upcoming adventure. Check out the offer here!

If this event is truly Thaddeus Ross’ funeral, it implies that the confrontation between him and the current Captain America likely ended with the latter having to subdue Ross during their clash in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, given Sam Wilson’s background as both a counselor and a soldier, which is highlighted in the special feature “Assuming the Mantle,” the typical MCU resolution seems unlikely.

If we assume this scenario is valid, then you’d have to add an alternate version of the Red Hulk battle sequence, alongside this solemn funeral scene, for it to be coherent. At that stage, it might as well incorporate a complete “New World Order Cut,” which also restores those scenes and other elements removed during reshoots/edits.

Although I strongly desire that wish to come true, I understand why it might not have happened. To put it another way, given that I Am Legend 2 could adopt a deleted ending, nothing is truly impossible.

As long as Marvel hasn’t verified that the funeral scene in Captain America: Brave New World resembles a deceptive trailer like Avengers: Infinity War’s Hulk scene, we can’t be certain about its truthfulness. Given the political thriller nature of Captain America: Brave New World, this uncertainty seems quite fitting.

To create your own ideas or challenge points previously mentioned, you could now stream or rent Anthony Mackie’s first film appearance as the new Captain America on various digital platforms in high definition.
