Capital FM’s Aimee Vivian disclosed a shocking revelation about her experience after giving birth to her daughter earlier this year – her breast milk almost proved fatal for her.
37-year-old DJ revealed that she had given birth to a daughter on June 15 with her husband Steve Carter, but ended up in the hospital several weeks later due to a sepsis infection.
In her latest interview, Aimee openly shared her belief that she might not have survived after her health took a turn for the worse.
The radio personality has returned to his residence in Buckinghamshire, accompanied by his daughter Charli. He’s currently working on increasing public understanding about the origins of mastitis, a breast condition, as well as the potentially fatal sepsis infection that can result from it.
She shared with The Mirror: “I recall staring at the hospital midwife and pleading, ‘Please, don’t let me perish tonight.’ At that moment, I truly believed I wouldn’t survive. It’s still hard for me to comprehend that something as fundamental as giving life could have nearly taken mine away.
Aimee shared that her pregnancy was quite simple, and she underwent a successful C-section delivery that went extremely well. Following the procedure, she left the hospital just one night later.

As a devoted mother, I couldn’t help but be overjoyed when my body produced an ample amount of breast milk, with everyone praising it as exceptional. However, upon returning home, the situation became challenging. My precious daughter struggled to latch on due to a tongue tie, making breastfeeding more difficult than expected.
Tongue tie refers to a situation where the ligament linking a newborn’s tongue to the bottom of its mouth is unusually short, restricting its movement.
Aimee scheduled a visit with physicians for Charli to resolve the issue, while in the interim, she employed a breast pump to aid in feeding and alleviate the excessive milk production from Charli’s body.
Despite the doctor’s advice, her breasts quickly became extremely tender and nothing seemed to provide relief. She started experiencing discomfort, including severe headaches and cold shivers.
Aimee shared that she thought she might be experiencing signs of mastitis, a condition often found in nursing mothers, which could stem from an infection or excessive milk accumulation.
Symptoms can include swollen breasts which are hot to the touch as well as ‘flu like symptoms.
Aimee scheduled a visit with a general practitioner, who wasn’t entirely certain it was mastitis but prescribed antibiotics for her.
As her health grew worse, she described her ordeal: “On a Sunday morning, I woke up early to feed Charli. Chills ran through my body so intensely I shivered uncontrollably. My head ached terribly, almost to the point where I couldn’t lift it. Then I attempted to pump milk for her, but the pain was indescribable. It seemed evident that the milk was infected as there were pus-like spots in it.
Aimee shared that, due to a midwife’s urgent advice and support from her Instagram followers, she was immediately taken to the hospital. The midwife had expressed concern and suggested that she should head directly to the emergency department.
In just a few hours, Aimee was admitted to the hospital and connected to intravenous antibiotics for what doctors described as a severe infection, which was subsequently diagnosed as sepsis.

Aimee expressed: “It was truly awful. I felt so sick and so distressed, being a new mother, unable to be with my baby. The threat of sepsis taking my life is not an exaggeration. I vividly recall thinking after Steve and Charli left, ‘What if I never get to see him or her again?’
Following a four-day stay at the hospital, the radio celebrity was granted permission to return home, yet her recuperation was gradual-not just in terms of her physical health but also her mental wellbeing as well.
Currently, Aimee is resolute about voicing her support for other women and is eagerly anticipating the next phase of her journey with her daughter.
Last month, it was announced that Aimee had given birth to her first child, as fans noticed her absence from the yearly Summertime Ball held at Wembley Stadium.
She posted a beautiful photo showing herself holding a baby wrapped in a personalized blanket with the name ‘Charli.’ Accompanying the picture, she wrote: ‘Forever captured by Charli Carter.’
Previously, Aimee had shared a flashback from the Summertime Ball of the previous year and wrote: “Sending lots of best wishes to my @capitalofficial and everyone for a fantastic Summertime Ball day.
Although I’m regretful for not being active recently, it’s because our latest family member has come into the world, immersing us in a beautiful bubble of newborn affection.
She went on to say that this year, she traded being backstage at Wembley for watching performances on YouTube, with a bottle of milk and a diaper in hand – an update on her baby will follow soon.
Aimee Vivian began working as a disc jockey for Capital FM back in 2015; since then, she’s been presenting the afternoon program from Monday through Saturday.
