Capcom Confirms it'd Like to See 'All' of its Classic Fighting Games on Modern Platforms

As a seasoned gamer with decades of fighting game history under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and frustration at Capcom’s latest announcement. On one hand, the idea of revisiting classic Capcom fighters like Marvel vs. Capcom and Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike on modern platforms is nothing short of exhilarating. These games were part of my formative years, and I still remember the thrill of pulling off a perfect Hadoken or a devastating Dragon Punch in the heat of battle.

As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that Capcom has expressed their intent to bring their timeless fighting games to contemporary platforms. Although the release of Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics on Xbox was initially anticipated, it seems there might have been some delay or hiccups in its launch. Regardless, I’m eagerly looking forward to experiencing these classic battles on my modern gaming systems!

Producer Shuhei Matsumoto shared with IGN that they aim to bring their classic fighting games to modern consoles so that people who may not have had a chance to play these games in the past can now do so. Essentially, they’re always thinking ahead and striving to make these games accessible for everyone.

Matsumoto was enthusiastic about the possibility of re-releasing “Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike” as a ‘definitive edition’, given its impressive performance at EVO 2024. Yet, there’s uncertainty whether these games will appear on Xbox, as “SNK vs. Capcom: SvC Chaos” also bypassed the Xbox console when it debuted in July.

It’s our fervent wish that unseen actions are taking place to tackle the apparent problems with Capcom’s MT Framework, a potential hurdle stopping classic brawlers like Marvel vs. Capcom and SNK vs. Capcom from landing on Xbox. If Capcom intends to port its iconic fighting games onto contemporary systems, it would be disappointing if Xbox were left out of those plans.

Currently, we’ll be limited to seeing Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury and Mai Shiranui in Street Fighter 6, since they are guest characters featured within the game’s Year 2 Character Pass.
