Canelo responds to Conor McGregor, Jon Anik’s wish for Tony Ferguson & ESPN+ price hike
As a long-time combat sports enthusiast who’s seen more than my fair share of fights on various platforms, I can’t help but weigh in on today’s headlines.
In this fresh daily feature, I’ll dissect news stories hailing from the realm of combat sports and share my unique perspective. Drop by each morning to catch the day’s major or intriguing updates along with my opinions on them.
Canelo claps back at Conor McGregor
In response to @TheNotoriousMMA’s tweet regarding his perceived lack of drawing power, this is how @Canelo chose to respond: Here’s the message he shared with me at @FightsATW. #CaneloBerlanga

Conor McGregor criticized Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on Twitter, referring to him as a ‘flake’ who doesn’t sell pay-per-views. During a pre-fight press conference, Canelo responded to these comments, saying that McGregor is helping Dana White promote UFC events, and he knows they are like father and son.
It’s clear Canelo is correct. Conceivably, McGregor is irritated since the boxing match coincides with the UFC Sphere event. Dana White has expressed his displeasure, which could explain why McGregor might be voicing similar opinions. Alternatively, he might just be acting typical of himself and trying to insert himself where he’s not needed.
Jon Anik has an interesting idea for Tony Ferguson
After eight consecutive defeats, Tony Ferguson appeared to retire from the UFC, but there are signs he might get one more chance. UFC commentator Jon Anik has proposed a potential opponent for him: Joe Lauzon. According to Anik, Lauzon hasn’t fought Ferguson yet and is still under contract, which could make their fight an interesting matchup as Ferguson seeks redemption. Anik suggested Googling Lauzon to confirm this information.
If we want Ferguson to end his career with a victory, you might as well pair him with Lauzon in a role other than fighting, because that matchup doesn’t appeal to me. Frankly, I think it’s time for Ferguson to call it quits and move on with his life. How many more chances are we going to grant him? He’s only damaging his reputation by continuing.
ESPN+ will raise it’s prices again
Starting from October, the popular spot for UFC enthusiasts to catch their fights, ESPN+, plans to increase its subscription price once more. From then on, it will be priced at $11.99 per month.
As a frustrated gamer, I can’t help but express my disappointment with ESPN+. The app seems to lag constantly, freezes at the most inconvenient moments, and the same commercials repeat ad nauseam. It’s not just frustrating, it’s downright annoying!
