Candace Cameron Bure’s Emotional Body Image Breakthrough on Podcast
Candace Cameron Bure was brought to tears while speaking about her struggle with body image issues.
On Tuesday, the actress, aged 49, posted a snippet from her self-titled podcast, discussing in it how she had been unkind to her body in the past.
Previously, Candace would often treat herself harshly, but this changed after she underwent a profound understanding.
She said, “I’ve treated my body cruelly, using sharp words, being quite unkind. Then, surprisingly, my body responded.
It responded, ‘ Haven’t I been the one carrying you every day of your life? Aren’t I your legs that enable you to walk and your arms that let you pick up and feed yourself? Why are you causing me so much pain, why do you speak harshly to me, and why do you treat me this way?'”
This version maintains the original meaning but uses more common, everyday language. The sentence structure has been simplified, and some phrases have been rephrased for clarity.
She explained that it felt like a profound realization in my life, and she continued by sharing an unusual biblical tale. According to this tale, God communicated to me about the unkindness I’ve shown towards my own body.

Reflecting on my past, I acknowledge I was harsh towards myself, and it brings tears to my heart now. Navigating the path of self-compassion, especially when it comes to treating my body with kindness, has been a profound journey. I’m confident that many others can relate to this struggle too.
To those who resonate with me, I want you to know that I am sending you a massive digital embrace at this moment. May we both extend compassion and affection to ourselves, which is what we truly merit. š
Candace’s confession made her two female co-hosts visibly emotional as well.
And she received plenty of praise in the comments for the remarks.Ā
Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen’s daughter Lola Sheen wrote, ‘i love this wow ā¤ļø.’Ā
This statement can be rephrased as, ‘I really wish I could give my past self a comforting hug during various seasons. This resonates deeply with me.’
Another person added, ‘Wow, you’re going to make such a positive impact on many lives through this discussion! Thank goodness for that!’
Previously, Candace discussed a ‘discomforting’ installment of Full House centered around D.J.’s character grappling with self-image concerns.

In the August 12 episode of Pod Meets World, the actress who played D.J. Tanner in the original Full House (1987-1995) and its sequel series Fuller House talked about how her real-life weight loss journey was woven into the plot of the sitcom.
Originally, I was known for my plump cheeks, and many found that endearing. Reflecting on it now, I can say I was simply an ordinary, everyday girl. When meeting others, they often remark about how slimmer I appear in reality compared to my image.
‘You’re just like, “Is that all people see?”‘ Bure asked. ‘Do they just see my chubby cheeks?’
Reflecting on a pivotal moment from our lives, I can’t help but recall when DJ made a conscious decision to limit her food consumption ahead of a pool party. As a lifestyle enthusiast, it serves as a reminder that body image and self-perception can sometimes overshadow the joy and camaraderie that these social events are meant to evoke.
Andrea Barber (also known as Kimmy) and I were planning to attend a pool party, but I didn’t fancy wearing a swimsuit. In an attempt to shed some weight quickly, I embarked on an intense diet, hoping to lose weight within a week, so I wouldn’t feel self-conscious about my appearance in the swimsuit. Eventually, I fainted at the gym during this process.
Bure shared that the episode did not come as a surprise to her.
‘They consulted my parents as well as me about writing an episode similar to this, and I agreed. However, while participating and performing, it felt a bit uncomfortable for me.’
Bure shared, “I had shed approximately 20 pounds from one season’s end to the next. Initially, people were impressed, and they suggested, ‘Why not showcase this on the opening credits, perhaps by featuring you on an exercise bike to highlight it?’

Reflecting on it now, I don’t consider it as something negative. In fact, the amount of dedication and perseverance I poured into shedding those 20 pounds was quite substantial.
Last year Candace got candid about dealing with depression on her podcast.
The actress teared up while discussing how hard it can be to ask for help.
She confided to author Jennie Allen that the location was incredibly isolating, and expressing her feelings about it was challenging. She even found it tough to open up to her closest friends about it.
The mom of three commented, “Admitting this is tough for me, as I believe I ought to be resilient enough to handle it, but then it seems vulnerable instead.
1. The sensation is undeniably feeble, and many others share this perception. This leads to an instant feeling of embarrassment, as if struggling implies personal weakness.
Or, in a more conversational tone:
2. It truly feels like it lacks strength, and a lot of people seem to agree. This immediate thought is, “If I find this hard, then I must be weak.” It’s that simple shame that sets in when others perceive your struggles as signs of weakness.
She explained, ‘Yet thereās so, so many times when Iām like, “I donāt want to feel this way.”
Despite giving it my utmost effort to extricate myself from this situation, I find myself unable to climb out of the hole on my own. Alone, I’m not strong enough to lift myself up. However, asking for help is a struggle for me.
