Candace Cameron Bure says she ‘felt deep brokenness’ in marriage to longtime husband

Candace Cameron Bure, known for her role on Full House, is opening up about the challenges in her almost 30-year marriage, revealing there have been moments when it felt like it was falling apart.

Actress Candace Cameron Bure, 49, is getting attention for her honest and open comments about her marriage to former hockey player Valeri Bure, 51.

She surprised her fans in July by sharing that she and her partner nearly divorced, explaining they went through a very difficult time that almost ended their marriage.

Candace shared that it was their youngest son who ultimately helped guide them back together.

Married in 1996, the couple have three grown children: Natasha, age 27, Lev, 25, and Maksim, 23.

In a new interview with UsWeekly published on Wednesday, Candace shared that she and Valeri have gone through difficult times, but they were able to overcome those challenges and rebuild their lives.

She explained that she’s gone through periods of intense emotional pain. While it’s not something she struggles with every day, she’s definitely experienced those feelings, as everyone does, and has had times in her life when those feelings were overwhelming.

She explained that God specializes in renewal, loves to rebuild and refresh, and is definitely capable of doing so.

Balancing work and family has always been a challenge, and many women especially feel that pressure.

Candace recently revealed that she and her husband came very close to divorcing in 2020, but they ultimately decided to stay together thanks to their son, who helped them work through their issues.

In a recent episode of her podcast, Candace Cameron Bure shared that she and her husband, Val, experienced a very difficult time in their marriage.

She said at one point, they both had thoughts about splitting up until their kids stepped in.

Things were rapidly getting worse, and we felt like we weren’t going to succeed.

She remembered how their son Lev, the oldest of their three children and a co-host on the podcast along with Pastor Jonathan Pokluda, helped them navigate a difficult time with their faith.

‘Lev came up to us and said, “We’d like to talk to you guys”,’ she recalled.

Lev gave us a lengthy talk about marriage, lasting around 45 minutes. He sat on the couch with his Bible and just spoke to us about it.

Oh my gosh, I’ll never forget what he said! He was so humble, admitting he hadn’t been married and that he was still young. He basically said it might seem weird taking marriage advice from someone his age who hadn’t even been married, but that didn’t matter! He knew what the Bible said, and that’s all that mattered to him! It was just… so perfect.

The actress explained that seeing things through her son’s eyes helped her and her family reconnect with what’s truly important to them.

He had a remarkably calm and wise presence. He made direct eye contact with both Val and me, and personally asked each of us, “Have you truly given this your all?”

‘We walked away from that, and Val and I were like, “We raised pretty good kids.”

She explained that a specific conversation marked a turning point for them. Things shifted dramatically after that talk, especially because their children were the ones initiating it and questioning their parents’ maturity.

She added: ‘I’m so grateful to Lev, and Maks and Natasha. They were so supportive of everything.’

The Fuller House actress had previously shared how the COVID-19 pandemic impacted her marriage.

She admitted in a March 2021 interview with Yahoo! Lifestyle that years of avoiding certain topics suddenly came to the forefront.

We had to have these difficult conversations and work through the really tough stuff.

She began dating the retired NFL player after being introduced by her Full House co-star, Dave Coulier, and they became engaged within a year.

As a lifestyle expert, I always love hearing stories of couples who make it work, and June was special for the Bures! They celebrated another wedding anniversary, which is a beautiful testament to their commitment and how they’ve navigated challenges together. It’s truly inspiring to see them overcome hurdles and build an even stronger relationship.

On June 22, she shared a gushing tribute dedicated to her partner on Instagram.

She shared that they first went on an official date 31 years ago at his hockey rink in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Before that, they were introduced by a mutual friend, @dcoulier, at a charity hockey game in Los Angeles four months prior.

Thirty years ago today, on June 20th, we became engaged in Paris. Two days later, on June 22nd, we said ‘I do’ and got married. We’ve built a wonderful family together, and I’m sending my love and happy anniversary wishes to my best friend. This song holds a special place in our hearts – it was the one we danced to for our first dance as a married couple.
