"Cancelled" Marvel project going ahead after all; new script reportedly in works

As a gamer with over two decades of Marvel Universe fandom under my belt, I must say, the rollercoaster ride that is the MCU has been nothing short of thrilling, albeit a tad unpredictable lately. With films like Eternals, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and The Marvels failing to meet expectations, it’s no wonder the studio’s taking a more cautious approach to their releases.

Over the past few years, followers of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have experienced quite a rollercoaster ride. A series that used to rule the box office every two or three years is now facing setbacks which has left some wondering about its long-term appeal.

Movies like Eternals, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and The Marvels didn’t reach the same level of success as some previous franchise installments, leading to changes in Marvel Studios’ release strategy. This reportedly means they will prioritize quality over quantity, dedicating more time to refining upcoming projects (and possibly scrapping some projects that were once planned for return).

This strategy required focusing on each upcoming movie, aiming to deliver compelling performances that would pique fan interest and provide them with a satisfying viewing experience. Some speculation even hinted at the potential cancellation of movies if they failed to meet these standards, which led fans to fear that one specific film might have been among those axed.

Blade not cancelled; still on track, according to insider

Based on information from industry expert Daniel Richtman, it appears that production for the movie “Blade” is moving forward and is expected to start in the UK sometime next year. It’s also been suggested that the team is currently refining the script and that the film will have a more modest budget compared to some of the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe productions.

Fans who were fearing the cancellation of the movie will be overjoyed to hear that it’s still on track for release. Just a week ago, it was removed from the schedule and replaced with “Predator: Badlands”. Given that there are three other Marvel films scheduled for next year, along with the studio’s new strategy limiting theatrical releases to three per year, it wasn’t unexpected that production might be delayed again. What’s more, it was the only one of the four in pre-production at the time.

Nevertheless, what’s troubling is that there seems to be no other scheduled date for its release, fueling numerous speculations that the film might be on the verge of being scrapped. This is certainly not the desired scenario for fans who are eagerly waiting for it. The upcoming Blade movie, with its vampire theme, promises to unveil a fresh angle in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, much like how Agatha All Along paved the way for more witches within the franchise.

Beyond that, Blade is well-known in many homes due to the Wesley Snipes trilogy of films which represented Marvel when there weren’t many superhero movies. This suggests that it might attract a broader audience than just the usual fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

The film titled Blade was initially unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019; however, a series of setbacks such as delays, script problems, and changing directors have prevented it from taking flight. It has been suggested that Marvel Studios would soon decide the fate of both Blade and another MCU project, Armor Wars, which have been in limbo since 2020. The latest news may indicate that the movie will finally move forward.

As a die-hard Marvel fan, I can’t help but feel the excitement bubbling up inside me, knowing that Blade, one of the most beloved characters yet to grace the MCU, might finally make his long-awaited entrance. Fingers crossed this is the news we’ve been waiting for, and soon enough, we’ll get to see the Daywalker in action!
