Even though his main Wireless Festival set was cancelled, the artist now known as Ye still found a way to perform for fans on Friday.
The rapper’s career hit another setback this week when the UK government blocked him from performing at a festival in London this July. The decision, which appears to be the result of his own actions, adds to his recent struggles.
The Wireless music festival has been cancelled following widespread criticism of its decision not to address Kanye West’s history of antisemitic remarks. Many people had called for the festival to be permanently discontinued due to this issue.
Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, responded to the news on Friday by posting a video of Chinese children singing one of his new songs together.
The rapper shared a video on Instagram showing a group of young fans enthusiastically singing along to his song “All Your Love,” which he recently released with Talkbox artist Andre Troutman. Troutman also shared the video on his own social media.
I’m completely obsessed with a track from Kanye West’s new album, Bully! It’s seriously amazing, and honestly, I can’t believe it hasn’t been released as a single yet. It really stands out to me as something special.
Kanye West’s connection to East Asia began in his youth. When he was 10 years old, he lived in China for a year while his mother, Donda, taught at Nanjing University.
His latest video showcases young performers who have become popular on social media for their flawless renditions of current hip-hop and R&B hits. These include older tracks by Kanye West like “Come To Life,” “Runaway,” and “Only One,” which he made with Paul McCartney.
The group, guided by teacher Miho (who has gained 14,000 Instagram followers for her posts), also plays songs by popular R&B and rap artists like Frank Ocean, Drake, SZA, and Travis Scott.
This latest news from West comes after he was barred from traveling to the UK and following the cancellation of the Wireless Festival earlier this week.
As organizers were scrambling to apologize to those who had bought tickets, the person causing the problem seemed unconcerned, even appearing at a comedy club in Los Angeles.
West performed an improvised comedy set at The Lab At Hollywood Improv with actors Deon Cole and Ocean Glapion. During the show, he received high praise and was playfully called the ‘modern day Michael Jackson’ because of his impact on current music.
After the show, Glapion shared their excitement on Instagram, writing that it was an unforgettable night and they were thrilled to share the stage with two incredible performers!
The post received a predictably varied reaction, and one follower commented, ‘We shouldn’t accept or support someone who previously sold T-shirts with swastikas and identified as a Nazi…’
Okay, look, I really want to believe Kanye can get better, you know? I truly hope he finds peace and gets the help he needs with everything he’s going through. But honestly, it’s just… frustrating. It feels like every time he apologizes for something, there’s an album release or concert announcement right after. It makes it hard to tell what’s genuine and what’s… well, you know. It just feels calculated sometimes, and it really bothers me as a fan who wants him to be truly okay.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that the rapper Ye (formerly known as Kanye West), who has used imagery associated with Nazis and been accused of antisemitism, should not have been allowed to perform at the Wireless festival in London.
The controversial lyrics and merchandise promoted by the rapper – including a song referencing ‘Heil Hitler’ and a swastika T-shirt offered for sale on his website – led to demands for him to be barred from entering the UK.
West applied for permission to travel to the UK on Monday using an online system, but the Home Office denied his request, stating that his presence would not benefit the public, according to the Press Association.
West’s ETA was initially granted online before ministers intervened, it is understood.
The Prime Minister said: ‘Kanye West should never have been invited to headline Wireless.
Our government strongly supports the Jewish community and is committed to fighting and overcoming antisemitism.
‘We will always take the action necessary to protect the public and uphold our values.’
Festival Republic announced that Ye has been refused entry into the UK because his electronic travel authorization has been revoked by the Home Office.
‘As a result, Wireless Festival is cancelled and refunds will be issued to all ticket-holders.
Like with all Wireless Festival headliners, we spoke with various parties before booking Ye, and no one raised any issues at that time.
We strongly condemn antisemitism in all its forms and acknowledge the genuine harm it causes individuals and communities.
Ye stated today that he understands words aren’t sufficient, but he still wants the chance to start a dialogue with the Jewish community in the UK.
The rapper had offered to meet the British Jewish community before his show.
Before the government made its announcement, he released a statement saying he wanted to directly respond to the recent discussion about Wireless.
I want to come to London and share a performance that inspires positive change, spreading messages of unity, peace, and love through my music.
I’d really like to meet with people in the UK’s Jewish community face-to-face, and truly listen to their concerns. I understand that saying the right things isn’t enough – I need to demonstrate real progress through what I do. If they’re willing, I’m available to connect.
Presale tickets for Wireless Festival went on sale at noon on Tuesday and reportedly sold out quickly. General sale tickets were scheduled to become available at noon on Wednesday.
The Community Security Trust (CST), a charity dedicated to protecting British Jews from antisemitism, welcomed the Government’s decision, calling it a positive result after a difficult period for the Jewish community.
The organization stated that antisemitism is unacceptable in society and that cultural figures should help to make sure it doesn’t exist.
The Jewish community is always open to listening with understanding to individuals who sincerely apologize for past antisemitic actions. However, that apology and process of reconciliation needs to happen privately before any attempt at public image repair.
The Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA) said the Government had made “the right decision”.
The government demonstrated its commitment to fighting antisemitism by taking concrete steps after stating it would not be tolerated in the UK.
Given that this individual recently profited from selling items displaying hate symbols and released a song praising Hitler, they pose a clear risk to public welfare in the UK.
Phil Rosenberg, who leads the Board of Deputies of British Jews, stated they would consider meeting Kanye West if he withdrew from the Wireless Festival.
Rosenberg pointed out that it’s been less than a year since Kanye West released a song referencing ‘Heil Hitler,’ which followed three years of deeply offensive antisemitic statements.
He made highly offensive statements about the Black community, shockingly comparing the 400-year history of slavery to a voluntary decision.
Despite expressing regret today, his new album still features a song originally released last year that carries the deeply offensive title ‘Gas Chamber’.
He added that the Jewish community needs to see real regret and a commitment to change before they’ll accept an apology being offered publicly, like at the Wireless Festival.
We’re open to meeting with Kanye West to support his recovery, but only if he cancels his performance at this year’s Wireless Festival.
