Can You Spot Stephen Graham and Jamie Theakston in This Hilarious 2000s Music Video?
In an astonishing display, he left fans breathless with a deeply emotional portrayal in Netflix’s latest sensation, Adolescence – the talk of the town.
However, it was evident that Stephen Graham can excel beyond serious roles, as seen in a comical music video he previously made with Jamie Theakston, which was played on Wednesday’s Heart Breakfast Show.
Discussing with the actor who is 51 years old, as the captivating drama continues to break numerous streaming records, the host brought up Stephen’s exceptional acting abilities by recalling the time they collaborated for Michelle Lawson’s “Beautiful Thing” in 2005.
In a moment of humor, the 54-year-old presenter shared that the duo, despite holding musical instruments, couldn’t actually play them, causing their fellow host, Amanda Holden, who is also 54, to burst into laughter.
Jamie began: ‘Stephen won’t remember this. Stephen and I were in a pop video together.’
Stephen said: ‘No, I do remember. Yeah, yeah.’

‘So a friend of ours…’ Jamie continued as Stephen recalled: ‘Dan Cadan!’
Sure thing!
“Jamie said, ‘Yes, there was a director who required a band.’ So, Stephen, myself, and a few friends ended up standing in the background.
Amanda inquired, “Aren’t you just acting like you play an instrument?” To which her coworker replied, “Indeed, we are!” Their synchronized response left Amanda in fits of laughter.
Jamie added: ‘We hadn’t a clue’, as Stephen laughed: ‘I think I was the bass. I was the bass.’
‘And I was on keyboards,’ Jamie said. ‘Anyway we’ll find it.’
As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but echo his humor: “Simply bobbing my head, boom-chicka-boom. Truth be told, it seems many bass players share this same rhythm.
Actor Tywin from “Adolescence” has made appearances in several iconic music videos throughout his early career, such as Travis’s “Turn” in 1999, as well as “When The Sun Goes Down” and “Fluorescent Adolescent” by Arctic Monkeys in 2006 and 2007 respectively.
Lately, he has appeared in the songs “You’re In Love With A Psycho” by Kasabian (in 2017), “I Adore You” by Goldie (also in 2017), “Wandering Star” by Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds two years later, and “Spit Of You” by Sam Fender in 2021.

Stephen’s critically acclaimed series, “Adolescence,” focuses on 13-year-old Jamie Miller (portrayed by Owen Cooper), a character wrongly accused of killing a classmate, and was created by Stephen himself, who also stars as Jamie’s father.
In a new challenge, Top Boy star Ashley Walters steps into the character of Detective Inspector Luke Bascombe for a well-received four-episode series, distinctively filmed using long, uninterrupted takes lasting almost an hour each.
In the initial pair of episodes, we delve into the events leading up to Jamie’s apprehension. These scenes also trace the tireless investigations by DI Bascombe and DS Frank (played by Faye Marsay), as they diligently work to uncover the truth behind the stabbing incident.
On Wednesday, Stephen shared that his journey to fame wasn’t always smooth due to facing racial harassment as a child, stemming from his multiracial lineage.
Stephen, with roots traced back to vibrant Jamaica, once vividly remembered traumatic experiences of mistreatment that marked his formative years.
He shared with The Sun: “I am of mixed heritage. As a child, I was subjected to offensive terms that I prefer not to repeat, and was often referred to as ‘little monkey boy.’
Growing up, the actor lived with his mom and stepdad, Mike (or “Pops” as he affectionately refers to him), yet he managed to keep a tight bond with his real dad, who shares the same name, Stephen.
His stepfather served as the chief pediatric nurse, while his mother, who sadly passed away in 2022, worked as a social worker.
For Stephen, reading the script of “This Is England” would frequently stir deep emotions within him as it brought back haunting memories of the racial abuse he had endured, causing him to shed tears.
Following the conclusion of ‘This Is England’, I struggled to secure employment. For approximately eight months, I didn’t receive any call for auditions. I was on the verge of giving up. However, he mentioned that he intended to become a youth worker instead.
A specific instance where he assaulted a Black man was especially challenging for Stephen, as it stirred up memories from his troubled past.

He said: ‘It was life-changing. I lost myself quite a bit within that character.
In the evenings, I’d return home, call Hannah (my wife), and weep uncontrollably. Afterward, I would turn to drinking.
‘For me that was where I really learned to dive into a character.’
In addition to the racial discrimination he experienced, he has also talked about his upbringing as a resident from a housing estate, belonging to the working class.
Stephen argues that British dramas are frequently misunderstood when they depict working-class families, suggesting they are portrayed more like artistic projects and as being in a state of misery on television.
In previous conversations, the actor has openly discussed his battles with mental health issues. At one point in his early adulthood, he fought severely depressing feelings, and at a particular time, he even contemplated suicide.
‘Thankfully, the rope snapped and I’m here today,’ he told The Sunday Times in 2019.
Stephen additionally talked about the profound impact that rigorous acting methods he learned at drama school had on him, culminating in a state he referred to as a ‘simulated mental disorder’.
He shared that method acting was an exceptional technique, and he gave it his all. He experienced a few challenging situations which left him feeling overwhelmed and unable to continue.

In the breakout role of a racist skinhead named Combo in Shane Meadows’ 2006 movie “This is England,” he openly acknowledged becoming fully immersed or absorbed in the character.
He shared that he turned to alcohol as a means to handle the stress associated with his role, expressing this during an interview on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs: “That experience was transformative. I felt like I got lost in the character to some extent.
Stephen frequently came home, emotionally drained, and shed profuse tears following the intense filming sessions for the movie.
He said: ‘For me, that was where I really learned to dive into a character.’
During a touching interview on Wednesday, Stephen choked up while sharing stories about his father being his greatest champion.
As a kid, the actor deeply admired Robert De Niro and had a poster depicting him from the movie “Taxi Driver” hanging up in his room.
On an appearance at Capital Breakfast alongside Jordan North, Chris Stark, and Sian Welby, I shared a heartfelt story about my father being my greatest cheerleader.
He said: ‘I had posters on my wall, of Taxi Driver, and different actors that my dad had got me.’

‘And then you ended up working with them,’ co-host Jordan North said.
‘Telling your dad…’ fellow co-host Sian Welby added. ‘It must have been the proudest moment.’
Becoming emotional, Stephen said: ‘It makes me….want to go on it…’
He continued by saying, “I said, ‘Dad, you won’t believe this, but I’m going to be working with…’ and he questioned, ‘Who?’ To which I replied, ‘Mary has asked me to work on another film again.’ And his response was, ‘That’s fantastic, son!’
In my journey, I exclaimed a heartfelt “yes!” and then added, “I’ve moved on!” It’s important to note that the person in question truly stood by me, offering unwavering support. The same goes for my mom. They have been my pillars of strength throughout every challenge, if you catch my drift.
‘Every challenge you’re facing, I’ve just lost my contact lens! It was quite unexpected, if you can picture it, absolutely astonishing!’
