Can You Believe This SNL Star Looks Just Like the New Harry Potter?
As the upcoming HBO Max “Harry Potter” series moves into production and plans for a 2026 release, we’ll soon be able to enjoy streaming it with an HBO Max subscription. Yesterday, the first image from the new set was unveiled, showcasing our new Harry Potter, Dominic McLaughlin, sporting Gryffindor attire. Unsurprisingly, social media exploded with excitement, but current SNL cast member Chloe Fineman particularly caught attention for her striking resemblance to McLaughlin’s portrayal of Potter. Indeed, the comparison is uncannily accurate.
All along the way, we’ve been privy to casting, storylines and goings on among everyone attached to the new Harry Potter project. But now that we’ve reached this new stage, with the tease of McLaughlin in costume, things are getting real. A surefire sign of attention ramping up, too, is anyone attached to SNL referencing a project, and Chloe Fineman’s Instagram comparison is hilarious and uncanny.
The article showcases a photo from the HBO Max set, depicting an impressionist character wearing a dark wig and round glasses reminiscent of someone else. It took me a moment to understand that the pictures actually represent two distinct individuals. Here’s your chance to see it for yourself:

It’s clear that I’m utterly amazed and captivated by this revelation. Fineman’s playful comment, “Cats out of bag! I’m playing Harry! 🪄”, adds to the amusing resemblance, as she announced that she will portray Harry Potter. The initial image of the new actor embodying Harry Potter already had me hooked, but now, with a touch of wardrobe magic, they could be twins! It’s disappointing though, since we won’t have much more content to anticipate in the 2025 TV guide, as previously mentioned.
In the comments section, there’s a similar vibe to mine. Ranging from surprised glances to discussions about Season 51 of SNL, everything was there. Here’s a small taste of what the fans had to say:

The comment area echoed my feelings. From puzzled looks to chats about Season 51 of SNL, it had it all covered. Let me share some thoughts from the fans:

- Omg I cannot wait for this to be your new parody character on SNL. This is gold. Chloe Potter for the win!!!! – officiallyquigley

As an unsuspecting moviegoer, I found myself often confusing McLaughlin with Fineman, and let me tell you, it’s left me eagerly anticipating her upcoming projects. For the upcoming season of this iconic late-night program, I can’t wait to tune in every Sunday morning, thanks to my Peacock subscription, and catch a glimpse of McLaughlin during her HP period.
As for now, no cast member’s role is definitively set for Season 51. The speculation about who will be part of the cast remains unclear, but let’s hope the final decisions are made soon. I have a strong feeling that Fineman will rejoin us, given her six-season tenure on the show and her significant impact as a key player. She has been prominently featured in some of the most iconic skits, such as the viral Domingo sketch alongside Marcello Hernandez and Andrew Dismukes. Therefore, if she chooses to come back, I think it’s safe to assume that she will.
Despite everything, I’m concocting a plan that I hope will result in Fineman frequently portraying her best Harry Potter-like character as the Harry Potter series approaches its release. This is mainly because I won’t be able to distinguish between the two characters in my mind.
