Can Team Liquid beat Gaimin Gladiators? A look at TL versus GG match histories
As a dedicated Dota 2 gamer with years of experience under my belt, I’ve witnessed Team Liquid (TL) and Gaimin Gladiators (GG) face off against each other numerous times. The rivalry between these two teams is legendary, with GG often being considered TL’s kryptonite. I’ve followed their match history since 2023, and it’s been a rollercoaster ride.
Can Team Liquid players defeat the Gaimin Gladiators? Let’s examine their past performances for an answer.
The Riyadh Masters 2024 tournament has concluded, with Team Liquid (TL) suffering a 0-3 defeat at the hands of Gaimin Gladiators (GG). For over a year now, GG have given TL trouble. The question is: Can Team Liquid find a way to outperform Gaimin Gladiators? This article delves into TL’s past encounters with GG since 2023 and explores their chances of coming out on top.
Team Liquid versus Gamin Gladiators in 2023
In 2023, I was part of Team Liquid (TL), and Ludwig “zai” Wåhlberg was our offlaner and captain. That year, GG started to give us a hard time. During the Lima Major, our support player Samuel “Boxi” Svahn fell ill and couldn’t finish the tournament with us. Sadly, we lost to GG not once but twice – in the upper bracket finals and the grand finals. Since we weren’t at full strength during those matches, many didn’t read too much into our losses.

Following the Lima Major, Team GG triumphed over Team TL with a 2-0 scoreline in the DPC 2023 WEU Spring Tour Division I event. Subsequently, during Dream League Season 19, there was a major update for Dota 2. In the upper bracket final, TL outperformed GG but ultimately fell short with a 2-3 loss in the grand final. Despite losing numerous games against GG, Team TL turned the tables and defeated them twice in the third DPC event of that season at the Riyadh Masters 2023.
It’s possible that Team Liquid’s repeated losses to Team Gaming in major finals, including at The International 2023, have led fans to believe that Team Gaming is a significant challenge or weakness for Team Liquid.
As someone who has followed Dota 2 esports closely for years, I’ve witnessed countless matches between Team Liquid (TL) and Gambit Esports (GG). Based on my observations, I can tell you that TL had a rather interesting record against their rival team.
Liquid versus Gaimin in 2024
In 2024, when Zai retired from Team Liquid (TL), I was thrilled as a fan to see them bring in Neta “33” Shapira, the champion offlaner and captain from TI-winning team Tundra. Known for their victories against GG, Shapira’s arrival injected new vitality into TL. Did this dynamic shift improve TL’s record against their longtime rival? Let’s find out!

Despite starting the season with a loss against GG, Team TL managed to bounce back strongly by winning their next five matches against them over the following four months. In the year 2024, excluding best-of-two series, Team TL’s victory rate against GG rose to 60%, including three wins and one loss in best-of-three encounters. However, they were yet to secure a win in best-of-five matches with a record of 0 wins and 1 loss.
Conclusion
According to the statistics from 2023 and 2024, Team TL appears to have an edge over Team GG. Although GG has historically given TL a tough time in Best-of-Five (Bo5) competitions, the data indicates that TL is more likely to triumph against GG during Best-of-Three (Bo3) matches. We wish TL the best of luck and look forward to their continued success in future endeavors.
