Camila Mendes lands next lead movie role in Masters of the Universe reboot
As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the news about Camila Mendes joining the cast of the Masters of the Universe reboot has sent waves of nostalgia coursing through me. Growing up, He-Man was an integral part of my childhood, and the thought of seeing this iconic character brought to life on the big screen is almost too much to bear!
Actress Camila Mendes, known for her role in Riverdale, will be joining forces with Nicholas Galitzine as they prepare to take on roles in the upcoming revival of Masters of the Universe.
Mendes will take on the character of Teela, the head of the royal guard at the castle of Eternos who shares a significant bond with Prince Adam, portrayed by Galitzine, in an upcoming production.
Under the guidance of director Travis Knight, the movie based on Mattel’s ’80s toys, known as Bumblebee, will narrate the tale of 10-year-old Prince Adam. In a cosmic mishap, he plummets to Earth in his spaceship and becomes separated from his preferred weapon, the enchanted Power Sword.
In about twenty years, it falls upon Adam to take action and safeguard his native planet against the formidable threat posed by the malevolent Skeletor.
After the news of her casting broke, Mendes took to Instagram to share her excitement.
Over the moon with excitement about my new physique, I shared: “I can hardly believe it! This is truly happening… A heartfelt thank you to @amazonmgmstudios, @mattel, and Travis Knight for entrusting me with the role of Teela. Here’s to an adventure in Eternia! 🚀💫 #grateful”
In the post for “Do Revenge,” the lead actress shared a photo showcasing her surprised response upon learning she’d been chosen for the overdue remake. The image perfectly encapsulates the instant she got the call, with her hands shielding her eyes in astonishment.
Originally designed for Netflix, the Masters of the Universe film was ultimately let go by the streaming service during the summer of 2023. Since then, it has found a new home with Amazon MGM Studios and is now scheduled to premiere in cinemas on June 5, 2026. As a fan, I can’t wait to see this iconic story unfold on the big screen!
In other words, Chris Butler, who worked on ParaNorman, is now crafting the screenplay after initial drafts were written by David Callaham and the Nee brothers (Aaron and Adam).
Apart from the He-Man film, Mendes is set to feature in another revival too. She’s been confirmed for a fresh take on the ’90s horror classic, I Know What You Did Last Summer.
She is co-starring with Madelyn Cline from Glass Onion, Sarah Pidgeon of The Wilds, Tyriq Withers of Atlanta, and Jonah Hauer-King known for his role in The Little Mermaid.
The Masters of the Universe live-action movie will be released in cinemas on June 5, 2026.
