Calvin Harris Accused of Plagiarism: Is His Ego Destroying His Career?
Calvin Harris finds himself in a heated dispute with DJ Chicane concerning allegations that he imitated Chicane’s famous track, Offshore.
The renowned music creator from Scotland, aged 41 and expecting a child with his wife, Vick Hope, has recently been basking in the glory of his successful single, “Blessings,” on the charts.
Surprisingly, it was revealed that Nicholas Bracegirdle, known as Chicane, asserted that the latest single allegedly mirrors his 1996 hit Offshore, which stayed on the charts for eight consecutive weeks.
On TikTok, he shared a two-minute clip demonstrating that a segment from Offshore, edited and looped, produced the same sound as Blessings.
As your passionate admirer here, let me say: “Hey there, I’m Nick Chicane, and today, I find myself in a situation I never imagined I’d be – making this very video for you all.

Chicane stated, “I have the freedom to respond to the online opinions comparing the latest Calvin Harris single, Blessings, with my 30-year-old track, Offshore.
He proceeded to work with both singles using his music editing tool, then commented: “It’s quite challenging to distinguish between the two as they sound very similar due to their close resemblance.
He asserted that the video was a chance for him to respond to the comments about Calvin’s new song resembling his 30-year-old hit “Offshore.” (The wording “right to reply” has been replaced with “chance for him to respond,” making it more natural and easier to read.)
He then showed viewers how a riff in Offshore cut and looped sounded exactly like Blessings.
Calvin Harris’ reply video strengthened my belief that he has copied. I must say, Chicane’s composure and grace in this situation is commendable.
Chicane commented: ‘His disregard for others was extreme; he’s grappling with an overinflated ego… It’s both unfortunate and amusing to see him potentially damage his own career.’
In the eight-minute video, Calvin demonstrated by performing both singles, trying to identify the sections that might share similarities.

Occasionally, he chuckled and labeled Nick as “uninformed” while emphatically stating: “It’s not identical, it’s absolutely not identical.
In his post’s title, he stated: ‘Responding to those labeling me as a plagiarist over the past few days following that individual’s video, Wishing you all the best.’
Later on, Calvin asserted in the comments that Chicane had indeed utilized a sample in his song, stating: ‘Reach the end and you’ll hear the track he copied for his composition.’
When a fan questioned whether Chicane had listened to Tangerine Dream’s “Love On A Real Train” in his mix “Offshore”, Chicane clarified on TikTok that he hadn’t given it a listen at all.
TopMob has contacted Calvin’s representatives for comment.
As Calvin has been occupied with refuting allegations of plagiarism, he’s simultaneously been getting ready for the role of fatherhood.
Currently on maternity leave, his wife Vick (age 35) recently requested suggestions for a baby name from the Radio 1 Big Weekend audience in Liverpool over the weekend.
Beaming radiance, Vick shone spectacularly while flaunting her growing belly in a vivid, body-hugging maxi dress featuring a high slit on the legs.

During our conversation, Jamie Laing mentioned that Vick will soon be taking maternity leave and has asked for suggestions for baby names. If you have any ideas, please share them!
As the huge crowd began screaming out suggestions a giggling Vick replied: ‘Ok, I got it’.
Vick and Calvin’s newborn child is about to embark on a captivating journey, given that their family owns multiple properties, such as a farm in Ibiza and a sprawling 10-acre property in the picturesque Cotswolds region.
It’s said that the couple are constructing a grand house on their Cotswolds property, with plans for it to serve as their primary home.
In September 2023, they got married, and it was only recently that they made public their upcoming childbirth. They preferred to maintain their relationship as a private matter, keeping it mostly away from the limelight.
Vick stressed on air that she didn’t want to make a big deal out of her pregnancy.
She mentioned casually: “There’s no announcement to make, but it seems everyone has been asking if there will be one. However, let me clarify, I am not a monarch.
To put it frankly, I find it difficult to deal with matters that are personal or private. Sharing a tale about consuming a kebab from a trash can is something I’m comfortable with, though.
However, there’s a boundary, and I haven’t been very fond of divulging things extensively. Mainly because I’ve been savoring it all in solitude and tranquility.
