Calling Ted Lasso fans! This “feel-good” new sports comedy is now available to stream

A new “feel-good” sports comedy perfect for Ted Lasso fans has arrived on Apple TV+.

The movie titled “Stick,” featuring Owen Wilson and Judy Greer, made its premiere on a streaming platform today, boasting a noteworthy 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

As a former pro golfer, I find myself struggling to regain my glory days. Once known for my stellar swings, I now spend my time coaching and peddling golf clubs to make ends meet. That’s the story of my life, at least until this new adventure unfolds.

However, it seems like things might start looking up for him when he encounters Santi Wheeler (Peter Dager), an exceptionally talented young golfer who becomes his protégé.

In the production, Greer portrays Amber-Linn, who is not only Pryce’s former spouse but also the woman he continues to have strong feelings for. Interestingly, they both reside in the house they once shared as a married couple.

You can currently watch the first three episodes back-to-back, but future episodes will be released on a weekly basis.

The show has garnered numerous positive accolades, with The Guardian praising it as “enjoyable, upbeat television” and commending Wilson’s acting as “endearing.

According to RogerEbert.com, it’s a strong and fulfilling attempt that could have multiple seasons, while the Los Angeles Times describes it as a charming, delightful, humorous series – encompassing elements of sports drama, a journey narrative, adolescent growth story, and even a touch of a heist tale.

Many have likened it to the wildly popular sports series “Ted Lasso,” as Mashable puts it: “Despite how blatant some of the show’s comparisons to ‘Ted Lasso’ may seem, it’s hard not to be captivated by Stick, and this is largely due to Wilson’s outstanding performance in the lead role.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, while “Stick” may not be as grandiose as its tagline implies at this stage, it has an assured tone, concise storytelling, and a compelling cast that could help it become the next popular hit on the platform.

Discussing golf with the Decider, Wilson and Greer candidly shared their varying degrees of expertise in the sport.

Greer humorously began by stating he doesn’t have any golf clubs at all. He continued with a jest, promising to hand the responsibility to Mr. Wilson instead.

Wilson remarked, “I may not be a professional yet – let’s make that clear – but I’ve definitely improved a great deal. When I first began, golf appeared as daunting as Mount Everest to me.

“I just felt like I did not have an aptitude for this game, but slowly, surely I’ve learned it.”
