Calling Sherlock Holmes fans! The long-awaited third movie gets a disappointing update
The planned third Sherlock Holmes movie featuring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law has faced another setback, leading to an unsatisfying development in its progress.
In 2018, it was officially announced that the highly anticipated follow-up to the 2011 film “A Game of Shadows” had entered development. Unfortunately, progress on this project has been stalled for more than seven years now.
Nevertheless, fans were pleasantly informed in November when it was disclosed that a fresh version of the script, which Law (Dr John Watson’s actor) is involved with, was under development.

More than half a year since Law made his remarks, his “A Game of Shadows” co-star, Jared Harris, expressed a disheartening sentiment in an interview with “The Director,” stating that he’s unsure if a third movie will ever be produced.
As a gamer, I’m finding myself in the same predicament. No one seems to be sharing any insights about that topic I’m curious about. Honestly, I could use some enlightenment on this matter. It’s like I’m stuck playing a game without knowing the next level or the hidden power-up!
Although Harris’ remarks don’t explicitly mean the project has completely stalled, they do suggest that advancements, should they exist, are likely moving at a snail’s pace. With Downey Jr back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it might take some time before everyone’s schedules sync up for filming.
Beyond discussing the script’s progress, Law expressed a strong desire to bring the movie to life. He further stated that there is an overwhelming determination among everyone involved to ensure its success. This includes finding the necessary time and assembling the ideal team for the project.
When the news about the third movie came out, it was announced that Dexter Fletcher, who previously directed “Rocketman” and “Ghosted,” would replace Guy Ritchie, who had been in charge of both “A Game of Shadows” and its 2009 prequel.
Despite some disappointment among fans about the future of the franchise on the big screen, there’s still a glimmer of hope. For instance, the television series titled “Sherlock & Daughter” from The CW has gained interest in the market after a successful initial season.
In this intriguing mystery series, David Thewlis portrays the role of Sherlock, finding himself ensnared in a complex plot where his dearest companions have mysteriously vanished. Alongside him is Blu Hunt’s character, Amelia Rojas – a young Native American woman who harbors the belief that Sherlock could be her long-lost father.
Sherlock & Daughter airs on The CW and streams on Discovery+.
As an ardent fan, I’m thrilled to share that Digital Spy’s latest print issue is out! Grab a copy of the highly anticipated “Oasis – Live in ’25” either from your local newsagents or online, now available for just £8.99. Enjoy the magic of Oasis like never before!
