Call the Midwife’s Stephen McGann teases “passionate” Christmas special

As a seasoned Call the Midwife enthusiast with years of binge-watching under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and nostalgia as Stephen McGann hints at the upcoming Christmas special. The idea of Dr Turner sliding down a high slide at a fun fair brings back memories of childhood fairs, albeit with a touch of adult excitement this time around.

The actor Stephen McGann, known for his role in ‘Call the Midwife’, hinted that this year’s Christmas episode will be filled with intense emotion, but perhaps not the kind of passion one might normally associate with the term.

I’ll offer a rephrased version for you: The team from Digital Spy spoke with the actor who plays Dr. Patrick Turner on the red carpet during the National Television Awards on September 11th. They discussed upcoming events at Nonnatus House.

McGann took us by surprise when he disclosed that the enthusiasm he spoke of stemmed from Dr. Turner encountering extraordinary situations.

As for the upcoming Christmas special, all I can hint at is that you’ll find me enjoying a trip to an amusement park, specifically with a glimpse of Dr. Turner sliding down a tall slide.

“It’s beautiful. It’s brilliant. It’s passionate. It’s romantic… It was great!”

McGann continued, “I took the children with me – after all, I’m not much older than a five-year-old myself most of the time. It was fantastic, and it’s bound to be amazing.

The actor shed some light on some of the promotional photos released for the festive episode, where the nurses were shown chopping up huge amounts of Brussels sprouts.

He playfully suggested, “It seems there’s a problem with the quantity of Brussels sprouts we have,” implying a sense of foreboding. You know something ominous is brewing. After all, it’s the season for both sprouts and newborns. In essence, Christmas is synonymous with Brussels sprouts and babies.

This holiday-themed episode continues the story following the surprising end of season 13, where Nursing Trixie decided to reconnect with Matthew Aylward in New York City, leaving Nonnatus House behind. But cheer up, because Trixie is returning for Christmas!

In another place, it was clarified by Helen George that rumors circulating about Miriam Margolyes leaving her role as Mother Mildred on the show “Call the Midwife” were unfounded.

She expressed doubt, saying, “I’m not sure if that’s accurate information.” She added, “It seems to me she hasn’t been involved for quite some time… It’s possible that certain tabloids may have misconstrued things.

Call the Midwife airs on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
