Call the Midwife’s Helen George reveals special detail in Trixie ‘fight’

The actress who plays Trixie Aylward on “Call the Midwife,” Helen George, shared that the wardrobe choices for this upcoming season aim to showcase her character’s resilience through their design.

In Season 14, Trixie assumes a new position in addition to her midwife responsibilities, as she fiercely battles against the Health Board’s plans to close down Nonnatus House.

George mentioned that the attire Trixie wears in the show symbolizes her strong-willed nature. In a unique way, she expresses her strength and confidence through wearing tailored, powerful suits, which also reflect her embrace of a more traditionally masculine style.

George said, “She seems to have found herself and recognized her value,” he told RadioTimes.com.

She’s putting up quite a struggle and in a sense, expressing a masculine side. This aligns with her style too, which I find fascinating. The power suits she wears emphasize a more powerful and assertive image.” She further noted.

As I marveled at the set, I noticed the shoulders pads and lapels were more expansive than before. My co-star, Megan Cusack, who brings Nancy to life, chimed in, emphasizing that there’s a sense of power embedded within our wardrobe choices.

Trixie effectively holds her ground with the Board, successfully arguing on behalf of Nonnatus House and enabling it to persist in offering essential services for numerous vulnerable women.

In a more straightforward manner, George stated, “The power suits were chosen to represent strength and masculinity. Since she often attends important meetings and faces off against strong male figures, we aimed to reflect this power dynamic in our clothing designs as well. I believe we succeeded in doing so.

In the TV series “Call the Midwife,” Trixie has always faced tough times. Initially battling alcoholism, she later discovered a deep affection for Matthew (played by Olly Rix). However, their relationship was put on hold during the previous season as Matthew and his son Jonty departed for New York.

Call the Midwife airs weekly on BBC One on Sundays at 8pm and streams on BBC iPlayer.
