Call the Midwife’s Helen George joins “TV icon” in exciting new project

This holiday season, “Call the Midwife” actress Helen George will momentarily step away from her character Trixie Aylward to perform alongside a renowned TV personality on stage instead.

It’s announced that George will be joining the cast for the “Cinderella” pantomime, which runs from 6 December until 4 January at Richmond Theatre next year.

In an upcoming production, the Trixie star will portray the role of Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother. West End and Broadway sensation Charlie Stemp has been cast as Buttons, while Basil Brush, known as a beloved fox and TV icon, will play Baron Brush.

What to Read Next

In the initial announcement for the pantomime, the identities of the first three principal actors have been unveiled; additional cast members will be disclosed at a later time.

In the upcoming Season 15 of “Call the Midwife,” George is anticipated to return as Trixie, taking us into the 1970s where some characters may participate in marches for the Women’s Liberation Movement, adding a fresh touch to Nonnatus House.

In early 2026, we can anticipate the arrival of a new series. Before that, however, there’s a special treat scheduled for Christmas 2025 – a two-part episode. This unique event will take us to both Hong Kong and Poplar.

Enthusiasts of the series can look forward to additional tales about Nonnatus House, as they will be presented with a spin-off series set before the original storyline and a follow-up movie.

In the prequel, the story unfolds in Poplar during World War II, focusing on the Blitz experiences in the East End. For now, specific details about the movie’s plot are not available, but we know that it takes place in 1972, featuring the show’s well-known characters temporarily moving abroad.

Opening new doors at Nonnatus House stirs deep emotions within me, and it seems perfectly fitting.

Call the Midwife airs on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
