The recently-released follow-up film to the beloved British movie titled “The Railway Children“, is now available for streaming on Netflix.
2022’s movie features Jenny Agutter reprising her role as Bobbie, originally played in the 1970 version, as we catch up with the storyline 40 years on, focusing on a fresh group of Railway Children amidst the Second World War.
On the weekend of September 1, the film became available on the streaming platform. If you couldn’t catch it initially or would like to watch it again, you can do so now.

In its premiere, the follow-up featuring Sheridan Smith drew predominantly favorable responses. Notably, the Radio Times described it as an “enchanting modern take” on a cherished timeless tale.
The Guardian noted that the film is “a charming and clever homage to the blameless, kind-hearted essence of the original.”
Speaking with Digital Spy upon its launch, Agutter confessed that the allure of sharing a fresh narrative drew her back to the character.
She expressed her affection for a future self, “It’s intriguing to imagine Bobbie living much later in time, having survived both the First and Second World Wars.”

I believe that author E Nesbit might also find the concept appealing, given their shared interest in time travel. It’s intriguing how time travel could work, not just as a means to explore other eras, but also as a tool to bring artifacts from different times that don’t originally belong to us, yet have an impact on our present.
“I was really pleased when it came up. I thought, ‘Yes, this would work.'”
She added: “It’s a very small role that I have in it because it really is about the new adventure.
In essence, the story revolves around Annie (Sheridan Smith) as a mother, but it also delves into another realm. However, to fully grasp Bobbie’s role and understand how she arrives at this point in 1945, you should consider that she has lived a life that bridges the gap between the present and then.
The Railway Children Return is available to stream now on Netflix.
