Call The Midwife star Jennifer Kirby gives birth to first child via emergency caesarean section with Killing Eve actor Robert Gilbert

Actress Jennifer Kirby, known for her role in Call The Midwife, has disclosed that she welcomed her first baby through an emergency delivery by cesarean section.

36-year-old star shares that she’s experienced anxiety episodes, often referred to as panic attacks, during her journey as a new mom over the past few months.

On Sunday evening, the actress who portrayed Nurse Valerie Dyer in the popular BBC period series for four consecutive seasons, also posted a picture – a selfie – revealing the scar from her Caesarean section, along with the news.

After sharing a heartfelt photo on Instagram, Jennifer expressed: “A single emergency C-section, numerous tearful moments, several anxious episodes, endless love, one magnificent newborn, and an entire year have passed.

She expressed gratitude towards her husband, Robert Gilbert (from Killing Eve), and furthermore said: ‘Thank you, my dear body, for everything it has gone through and accomplished.’

‘I won’t take you for granted again.’

Jennifer and Robert, aged 37, crossed paths while performing together in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s rendition of Henry V in 2015.

Last year, they got married, and this past Christmas, they became parents for the first time. They chose to keep this joyous event private, so when she recently shared an update on social media, it was a delightful surprise for many of their fans.

In response, her ex-co-star from Call The Midwife, currently nine months pregnant, posted a series of heart emojis along with clapping hands. Additionally, The Crown’s Yolanda Kettle chimed in with red heart emojis.

Robert commented cheekily: ‘Don’t try it lads SHE’S MARRIED.’

Many people commended her for her courage and sincerity in posting the image, as numerous others appreciated her candidness regarding the true nature of childbirth.

‘Nurse Valerie would have been proud of you,’ one fan wrote. 

One individual said, “Stunning woman! I share a similar scar from my Caesarean section with my second child. It’s incredible to see just how wonderfully capable our bodies truly are.

From 2017 to 2020, Jennifer portrayed Nurse Valerie Dyer on Call The Midwife. She was featured in many impactful episodes, tackling poignant scenarios such as challenging childbirths and deliveries.

After spending four seasons in a critically acclaimed historical series, she chose to depart, expressing her sense of pride for being involved and indicating that it was now the right moment for her to explore new opportunities.

Ever since that point, she’s mostly maintained a low profile when it comes to her private life. However, she’s had numerous stage and screen performances to her credit.

Robert has enjoyed a steady rise through in recent years. 

In the last season of Killing Eve, he made an appearance as the tech-savvy character named Yusuf. He aided both Jodie Comer’s Villanelle and Sandra Oh’s Eve in their ongoing operation.

Apart from that, he’s been featured on Channel 4’s comedy show “Big Mood” alongside Irish actress Nicola Coughlan, as well as the crime series “Bergerac.
