Call the Midwife confirms return to filming
As a gamer with a soft spot for period dramas, I must say, it feels like coming home again when I hear that Call the Midwife is back in production! Being a fan since its inception, I’ve seen the birth of many characters and storylines on screen, but nothing compares to the joy I felt when I found out Stephen McGann’s real-life son finally met his on-screen son.
Call the Midwife season 14 is officially back in production.
The latest news about the show was announced on its official Instagram, where they posted that production for the upcoming season has resumed after their traditional summer break
“Greetings everyone! We’ve returned from our usual summer hiatus to start filming series 14 again.”
During the midpoint of our lengthy filming schedule last year, we had our traditional break – a chance for the CTM team to reunite with loved ones, plan vacations, and simply relax and unwind!
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m sharing an exciting sneak peek! Here’s a photo featuring none other than Stephen McGann (Dr. Turner) and Max Macmillan (Timothy Turner), but there’s a mysterious third character joining them. If you’re curious about who it is, just take a gander at the caption for all the answers!
“Instead of taking a vacation, Stephen McGann found himself with a unique responsibility: attending to something quite extraordinary – his son Dominic’s wedding. This was because he and his partner Heidi Thomas, a writer and executive producer from ‘Call the Midwife’, were involved.”
The photo captures the moment Stephen’s real life son met his on-screen son, with the caption hailing the meeting as “14 long years in the making!”
During the extended production of “CTM“, they had been addressing each other affectionately through Stephen, using terms like ‘true son’ and ‘pretender’. However, they had never previously come across one another in person, which is a novelty that occurs here for the first time
As I snapped a quick selfie, I couldn’t help but feel a mix of awe and bewilderment – after all, it was the moment my virtual and real-life gaming universes intersected! The confusion on my face is only natural, I guess
The show “Call the Midwife” plans to air again on our screens later in 2024, featuring a special episode for Christmas. You can expect season 14 to premiere in early 2025
In the final episode of season 13, viewers were left questioning what lay ahead for beloved character Trixie, portrayed by Helen George, as she chose to embark on a fresh chapter with her spouse Matthew in New York City
I’m thrilled to share that my favorite show, thankfully, secured George’s future role in it, as confirmed by makeup supervisor Mariella Spoto back in April this year
Posting a brief video of George dressed up on Instagram, Spoto commented: “Get ready for Series 14… #CallTheMidwifeOfficial”
It certainly suggests Trixie is set to hang around for a little longer…
Call the Midwife airs on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
