Call the Midwife cast share “privilege” of working with fellow star ahead of ‘challenging episode’

It’s been really special watching Max Macmillan, who plays Timothy Turner on Call the Midwife, grow up on screen. Stephen McGann and I, playing his parents Mr. and Mrs. Turner, were just talking about how tender that experience has been. We shared some thoughts on the show’s Instagram page, and honestly, this week’s episode is going to be a tough one for young Timothy!

“I’m so happy to be like a mom to Max!” Main exclaimed. “We’ve all become very close over time, and our relationships have naturally become stronger as we’ve all grown up.”

Max has always been great with the children in the Turner family, and it’s fantastic to now see him taking on major roles as one of the adult cast members.

She explained that he has a strong bond with his co-stars Renee Bailey and Natalie Quarry, who play nurses on the show and are around his age. While he’s now considered a fully integrated member of the adult cast, he remains the same kind, funny, thoughtful, and intelligent person everyone knows and loves.

McGann also chipped in, stating: “Watching Max grow up has been a real privilege.”

Having a son who’s a bit older than Max helped me connect with both the actor and his character, Timothy, in the show. Though, Max has had to endure my awful dad jokes and playful teasing on set for a long time now, which isn’t so fun for him!

Macmillan, who joined the show at age 12 during its second season, described his time on the program as “exciting.”

I’ve been with this show since I was twelve, and now I’m twenty-five – it’s been a huge part of my life! A lot of what made it special was the way the Turner family interacted. Now, my character, Timothy, has a lot more to do, and I’m excited to tackle new acting challenges I’ve always watched others do.

Episode seven of Call the Midwife will feature Macmillan’s character taking on more responsibility while the oldest Turner child gets hands-on experience as a doctor in training in the East End, according to the show’s official Instagram page.

The post went on to say that Timothy will face a challenge on Sunday without any parental support, leaving the question of whether he’s up to the task.
