Call the Midwife boss reveals show may “take a break” following shock exit announcement
Call the Midwife‘s boss has revealed that the show may “take a break” in the future.
As a devoted viewer, I’m right in the thick of the latest season of that riveting BBC drama we all love. This week, it sent shockwaves through the fandom with the announcement that our beloved character Nancy Corrigan, played by Megan Cusack, is leaving the show!
Regarding the future of the show, its creator, Heidi Thomas, has hinted that there might be temporary breaks in the series – however, she has made it clear that the series won’t be concluding permanently.
She shared with Radio Times, “I’m not convinced that Call the Midwife will conclude someday, but I suspect there may be a pause in production at certain moments.
Thomas mentioned: “To be honest, I can’t discuss specifics. However, each year around this time, we engage in a continuous dialogue about whether there’s an endpoint and what our ultimate goal is.
More and more, we’re discovering chances to broaden the universe of our stories. Therefore, any pause will likely be to explore different facets of the world of “Call the Midwife.
When asked about a potential spin-off, the show boss teased: “Watch this space.”
Yesterday, Megan revealed her departure, expressing to the Radio Times: “Occasionally, it’s necessary to leave your safe space in order to expand. I’ve acquired so much knowledge, but I’m just beginning my professional journey, and I must make a bold move forward.
She added that it felt “bittersweet”, notably as she has “made lifelong friendships” on the show.
Call the Midwife airs on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
