Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 launches on Game Pass this week

As a long-time fan of the Call of Duty franchise, I’m thrilled to hear that Modern Warfare 3 is coming to Game Pass on July 24. This game holds a special place in my heart as one of the most memorable and exciting titles in the series. I fondly remember the intense multiplayer battles with friends and the gripping campaign missions where we took down the notorious Vladimir Makarov.

Beginning July 24, Microsoft has added Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 to its Game Pass library. This marks the first time a Call of Duty title is offered on Game Pass since Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard. The game will be accessible for Xbox consoles, PC Game Pass, and Game Pass Ultimate subscribers.

In November 2023, Activision and primary developer Sledgehammer Games launched “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.” This game serves as the successor to “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2” from 2022. Players can team up with familiar characters such as Captain Price, Ghost, and Task Force 141 in their global pursuit of the villain Vladimir Makarov. The new installment retains the classic multiplayer mode and introduces a redesigned co-op player-versus-environment extraction experience called Zombies.

Microsoft revealed back in the beginning of the year that the 2024 edition of “Call of Duty: Black Ops 6” would be accessible for Game Pass members on its release day. However, between this announcement and October’s launch of “Black Ops 6,” Microsoft made some adjustments to its Game Pass subscription plans. Firstly, they increased the cost of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, and secondly, they abolished the fundamental Game Pass tier, replacing it with the new Xbox Game Pass Standard. Unfortunately for those anticipating day-one releases, the revamped Game Pass Standard will no longer offer this perk.

In October 2023, Microsoft completed its $68.7 billion purchase of Activision Blizzard, the company behind popular games like Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, and Candy Crush. Announced over 21 months prior, this acquisition made Microsoft the new owner. Since then, progress has been slow in adding Activision Blizzard’s extensive catalog to their Game Pass service. However, an exception was made when Microsoft released Diablo 4 from Blizzard Entertainment for console and PC Game Pass subscribers back in March.
