I was so shocked and saddened to hear the news. Vince Zampella, one of the people who made Call of Duty the huge game it is today, passed away in a car accident on Sunday, December 21st, 2025. NBC LA reported it yesterday, and it’s just really heartbreaking for all of us fans.

Man, I was totally shocked to hear this news. It’s really sad – we’ve lost a true legend, someone who helped build both Infinity Ward and Respawn Entertainment. He was a huge part of shaping the games I love.

Call of Duty Co-Creator Vince Zampella Passes Away at the Age of 55

Vince Zampella died in a car crash on Angeles Crest Highway in California around 12:45 pm, according to NBC LA. He was driving a Ferrari southbound near San Gabriel Mountain when it hit a concrete barrier.

According to witnesses and first responders at the scene, Zampella’s car caught fire after the crash, and he was pronounced dead. His passenger was thrown from the vehicle and later died from their injuries at the hospital.

The video game world is mourning the loss of a truly influential creator, Vince Campella. He played a key role in developing hugely popular games like Call of Duty, Titanfall, Apex Legends, and Star Wars Jedi. Campella began his career in the 1990s with Atari and Sega, and later co-founded Infinity Ward with a former Sega colleague, Jason West, in 2002.
