Now that he’s no longer prime minister, Justin Trudeau is reportedly enjoying life with pop star Katy Perry, and they’re living in a luxurious $3.1 million home, according to the Daily Mail.
Former Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, age 54, recently purchased a beautiful, nearly 100-year-old stone house in Montreal’s Outremont neighborhood. The 4,965 square foot mansion was showcased to a singer earlier this week.
The couple was seen having lunch at Leméac, a French bistro located close to his large new home.
A fan reported that when people spotted the pair and tried to take pictures, Trudeau politely asked them to respect the couple’s privacy, explaining they were sharing a private moment.
On Tuesday, Lea Streliski shared on Instagram that she’d asked Justin Trudeau for a photo with Katy Perry, as her 11-year-old daughter is a huge fan. Trudeau declined, but Perry happily signed an autograph for the girl.
Justin Trudeau bought a new house in mid-January for $4.26 million Canadian dollars, and the purchase was officially completed on Monday, according to public records.
Real estate agent Joseph Montanaro put the property on the market last year with an asking price of $4.5 million, which was equivalent to $3.3 million in US dollars.
This spacious home, located on a large 13,672-square-foot lot near Mount Royal, features seven bedrooms, five bathrooms, a home office, and a dedicated ballroom – perfect for hosting guests.
This property is fully fenced and beautifully landscaped with established trees and bushes. It has two entrances: a driveway and gated path on the north side, and a two-car garage with stone steps leading to the house on the south side.
I noticed some activity at the property on Thursday that strongly hints at upcoming renovations. There was a big dumpster delivered, and I spotted someone from Modulor, a general contracting company, checking things out. So, it looks like changes are definitely in the works!
Justin Trudeau bought the house from Nicolas Ruggieri, who leads the real estate arm of his family’s company, Batipart Invest. Batipart Invest is based in Luxembourg and partially owns Cogir, a development company in Montreal.
In 2023, Ruggieri bought a home from Marc DeSerres, the head of the DeSerres arts and crafts retail chain, and his wife, Céline Blanchet, for $5,425,000.
Records obtained by Daily Mail reveal that Trudeau financed the purchase with a mortgage from the Bank of Montreal. The property is estimated to have annual property taxes of around $38,000, which is equivalent to $28,000 in US dollars.
As a long-time observer of public life, I’ve always been fascinated by the financial details surrounding those in leadership. It’s interesting to note that Justin Trudeau, after serving as prime minister for ten years and stepping down in March 2025, earned $406,200 Canadian – roughly $299,000 US – during his last year in office. It’s a reminder of the compensation that comes with such a demanding role.
He’ll start receiving a yearly pension of $141,000 next year, and will also get an extra retirement payment when he reaches age 67, sources say.
He now earns over $100,000 per speaking engagement, and is represented by The Harry Walker Agency in New York City.
At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Trudeau discussed the role of ‘soft power’ in international relations while Katy Perry observed.
Last September, he spoke at the 26th World Knowledge Forum in Seoul, South Korea.
Justin Trudeau and Sophie Grégoire Trudeau were seen together last July having a romantic dinner at Le Violon in Montreal, and later while walking near the Ritz-Carlton Hotel on Sherbrooke Street.
The next night, the ex-politician attended Perry’s Lifetime Tour concert in Ottawa.
The couple, first spotted getting cozy on a yacht near Santa Barbara last October, confirmed their relationship two months later when they were seen together publicly in Japan.
Trudeau and Perry have since shared photos from their global adventures on social media.
It’s logical for Trudeau to establish himself in Montreal, as he previously served as the Member of Parliament for the city’s Papineau district.
His family has a long history in Montreal, Canada’s second-largest city, where French is widely spoken. The city’s airport is named after his father, who was once the prime minister of Canada.
Their new house is conveniently located—it’s less than a two-mile walk through Mount Royal Park to reach the home of his brother Alexandre, age 52, and his family. Alexandre lives in Cormier House, a famous Art Deco mansion.
It was their father’s home from his retirement in 1984 to his death in 2000.
Justin and Alexandre co-own a chalet on 123 acres of land in the Laurentian Mountains, just north of Montreal, through a company they jointly operate.
Following his marriage to Sophie Grégoire in 2005, the couple purchased a home in Outremont for $1.2 million (Canadian dollars). They sold it in 2010 and moved to a smaller semi-detached house in Mont Royal, which cost $777,000 (Canadian dollars).
They sold the house when Justin became leader of the Liberal party in 2013.
For ten years as prime minister, Justin Trudeau and his family resided at Rideau Cottage, a historic home with over 10,000 square feet located on the property of the Governor General of Canada.
Because 24 Sussex Drive needed major renovations, Prime Minister Trudeau couldn’t live there.
He lived there for the first eight years of his childhood while his father, Pierre Trudeau, was prime minister. He later returned for another four years in the early 1980s when his father won a second term.
Justin and Sophie revealed they were separating in August 2023, ending their 10-year marriage. They share three children: Xavier, 18, Ella-Grace, 17, and Hadrien, who is almost 12.
According to his mortgage documents, Justin and Sophie are currently in the process of divorcing.
After finishing his term in office last March, Trudeau began renting a house in Ottawa’s Rockcliffe Park, a wealthy area about a mile from his previous residence, Rideau Cottage.
Oh my gosh, you HAVE to hear about this house! It’s seriously amazing – a beautiful brick and stucco home sitting on almost an acre! And the bedrooms… six of them! The master suite is to die for – imagine a huge, vaulted ceiling and your own fireplace! Plus, there are 4 and a half bathrooms – plenty of space for everyone! I’m completely obsessed, honestly.
The home features an office with bookshelves, a gym, a large kitchen with granite countertops, and a sunroom that can be enjoyed year-round with views of a saltwater pool.
The house, listed at $2.75 million ($2 million USD), was recently sold.
Last March, the Daily Mail reported that Prime Minister Trudeau was seen shopping for items for his residence at a Canadian Tire store in Gatineau, Quebec, which is just outside of Ottawa.
When he was prime minister, he shared with radio host Terry DiMonte that he enjoyed spending Saturday mornings at Canadian Tire.
‘I don’t go every Saturday morning, but I will go there, ball cap on, and I’ll just wander around.’
Good news for Justin: His new home in Montreal is just a 15-minute drive to a Canadian Tire.
