Cal Wilson’s replacement on Great Australian Bake Off revealed after beloved comedian’s tragic death

As a devoted fan, I’m excited to share that Foxtel has unveiled who will be stepping into the shoes of Cal Wilson on The Great Australian Bake Off, nearly two years since her untimely passing at the age of 53.

As your trusted lifestyle guide, I’m thrilled to share that the charming comedian, Tom Baker, will be joining forces with our beloved host, Natalie Tran, in the upcoming dessert competition! It’s going to be a sweet treat for all of us!

Baker took to his social media to share the news with his fans.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d like to share that I too have incorporated vibrant snapshots from the filming location of the popular show into my discussion. Among these images, there’s one that captures the humorist in a stylish moment, sporting a striking black and white sweater adorned with an eccentric swirl pattern.

In a recent Instagram post, they mentioned, “Hi there! I’m one of the hosts on The Great Australian Bake-Off!

‘They let me keep the cardigans and I am still not sure how to pronounce or spell mille-feuille!

I had an absolutely fantastic time, it’s hard to put into words without sounding like I’ve lost touch with reality! The people on set were incredibly welcoming, friendly, and hilarious, and I am overjoyed beyond measure.

Known primarily for his work as a stand-up comic, Baker has garnered awards from both the Sydney Comedy Festival and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

He’s also appeared on Guy Montgomery’s Guy Mont-Spelling Bee.

Baker and Tran will be joined this season by judges Rachel Khoo and Darren Purchese.

Sadly, Wilson passed away following the completion of filming episodes for season seven of the widely-appreciated culinary contest in 2023.

On October 11, 2023, she unfortunately lost her life due to a rare and aggressive form of cancer, only four weeks following her own decision to seek medical attention for persistent lower back discomfort.

The Melbourne-based stand up comedian is survived by her husband Chris Woods and son Digby.

The news of her demise was announced on Instagram through a statement, verifying that the cherished comedian had sadly passed away at a hospital in Sydney.

It is deeply saddening to announce that the beloved comedian, writer, and actor, Cal Wilson, passed away today, encompassed by her family and companions at a hospital following a brief illness.

‘Cal was deeply cherished by her family, friends, admirers, and colleagues, leaving an immense void within our community.’

One of Australia’s top comedians, Wilson had a long and successful career in stand-up and on TV.

She had worked as a radio and television presenter, actress and author.

She starred on TV shows Spicks and Specks, Would I Lie To You and Good News Week.

She featured as host in episodes of The Great Australian Bake Off 2024.

For the past two decades, Cal’s unwavering kindness, skill, and friendships have left an indelible mark on the Australian comedy world, according to Token Artists, who made this statement following her passing.

‘The community is deeply grieving as Cal held a special place in the hearts of family, friends, followers, and colleagues.’

Prior to her illness, Wilson had recorded the episodes of Bake Off. However, her illness later prevented her from continuing with work.

Last year, Wendy Moore, a member of Foxtel’s senior staff, expressed that Season Seven holds a particularly significant spot in our hearts. She mentioned that the passing of Cal was an unexpected and heart-wrenching blow for the Bake Off family as they prepared for the show to premiere.

Moore mentioned that Wilson’s family gave their “complete endorsement” for ensuring her outstanding final season of Bake Off would be broadcasted on Foxtel.

Wilson recorded just four episodes prior to her death, and comedian Tran assumed the hosting role for the remainder of the series.
