Buzz off, Bezos! Amazon tycoon and bride-to-be Lauren Sanchez get an early wedding message from Venice protesters
When they reserved Venice as their wedding venue later this month, Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez eagerly anticipate the enchanting view of gondolas and church towers upon arrival.
However, these images indicate that the joyful pair might encounter a louder, less cordial greeting in the ‘tranquil city’.
In just two weeks, left-wing demonstrators and some local residents have begun expressing their opinions openly about the extravagant three-day affair happening near them in Venice (La Serenissima).
Protesters have hung signs throughout the historic city, criticizing an expensive event estimated at £7 million. Some demonstrators are occupying the bell tower of a well-known church, believed to be one of the potential locations for the wedding ceremony.
A large sign displaying the name of Amazon’s tycoon, marked with a red X, was hoisted from the tower of San Giorgio Basilica. This church complex is situated on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, which is rumored to be under the control of Mr. Bezos and Ms. Sanchez for their special event.

A video published by a protest group named ‘No Space For Bezos’ displayed their members hoisting a banner aloft. In their online statement, they declared: “Venice isn’t up for sale… it isn’t available to rent, and it certainly isn’t a setting for the nuptials of one of the wealthiest individuals globally.
As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but express my thoughts about Mr. Bezos. Critics often label him as a tycoon whose enterprise contributes excessively to greenhouse gas emissions. Yet, for those who envision a submissive Venice, eagerly awaiting scraps from the king’s table, they will undoubtedly be left disillusioned.
61-year-old billionaire Bezos is being criticized by Venetians for transforming their city into a playground exclusively for the wealthy elite. Many of the city’s high-end hotels and water taxis are expected to be filled with celebrity visitors, leaving locals without much space to move around. Posters displayed throughout the city depict Bezos’s face on a rocket, accompanied by the message: “No room for Bezos, No room for oligarchs!
A different protest organization, Laboratorio Occupato Morion, has issued a warning that they will stage a demonstration on the wedding day, said to occur sometime between June 24th and 26th.
Notable figures such as politicians, company executives, famous personalities like the Kardashians and Eva Longoria, among others, are anticipated to show up. This gathering is likely to result in road closures, restrictions on waterways and flight paths, and an increased law enforcement presence.
