As a seasoned gamer and animation enthusiast who grew up during the golden age of Michael Jackson, I can hardly contain my excitement for Netflix’s upcoming release of “Sing: Thriller”! Having fond memories of staying up late to watch MJ’s groundbreaking music video, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia knowing that some of my favorite characters from the Sing universe will be revisiting this iconic pop culture moment.

Get ready to reconnect with some of my favorite characters as they band together for a Halloween surprise inspired by Michael Jackson’s legendary “Thriller” music video. It’s going to be a ghoulishly good time!
Notably, the original actors will be back to replay their characters such as Buster Moon, Ash, Johnny, and Miss Crawly once more.
Cast list (in order of appearance)
- Matthew McConaughey as Buster Moon

- Nick Kroll as Gunter
- Scarlett Johansson as Ash
- Taron Egerton as Johnny
- Garth Jennings as Miss Crawly
Michael Jackson’s classic hit “Thriller” is undeniably one of the most memorable songs ever made, making it an ideal choice for bringing back the Sing crew and celebrating a cherished moment in pop culture history.
The movie’s official description reveals that it centers around the New Moon Theatre troupe, who are shown basking in the glory of their stunning performance of “Thriller.” Afterward, they head to a Halloween gathering to commemorate their triumph. However, their joy is short-lived when they stumble upon a puzzling substance that has contaminated everyone at the party, transforming them into frenzied dancers.
The movie Sing: Thriller is modeled after Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” music video, featuring music and lyrics by Rod Temperton. Once again, the director of Sing and Sing 2, Garth Jennings, takes the helm for both directing and writing.

Regarding the new short, Jennings released a statement expressing his excitement, saying:
I don’t know if it is possible to enjoy making anything as much as I have done while working on ‘Sing: Thriller.’ Our awesome cast and team of geniuses at Illumination have gone above and beyond to take one of the biggest hits of all time and concoct a new and very special treat for Halloween.
Should you find yourself yearning to re-experience either ‘Sing’ or ‘Sing 2’, know that the original film can be streamed on Netflix, and if you’re keen on watching the sequel, it’s available for free (with ads) through Amazon’s Freevee service.
On Wednesday, October 16th, the thrilling premiere of “Thriller” will be streaming only on Netflix. Don’t forget to mark your calendar or set a reminder for yourself right here!
