Buffy’s Sarah Michelle Gellar addresses 90s movie role comeback hopes
As a die-hard fan who’s been following the intricate twists and turns of Sarah Michelle Gellar‘s career since her days as Buffy, I must say I’m thrilled that the actress will still have a hand in the upcoming reboot of “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” While it’s disappointing to learn that she won’t be resurrecting Helen Shivers, it’s heartening to know that her friendship with director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson is strong enough to keep her involved behind the scenes.
Sarah Michelle Gellar has dismissed any speculation about her involvement in the forthcoming remake of the 1997 horror movie “I Know What You Did Last Summer.
In the upcoming sequel, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr., along with Gellar’s spouse, will reprise their roles as Julie James and Roy Bronson respectively. Unfortunately, it appears that Sarah Michelle Gellar may not return to her role as Helen Shivers due to a straightforward explanation.
“I am dead,” Gellar told People.
The upcoming installment in the slasher series, which Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, a friend of Gellar, will direct, plans to mix original actors with a fresh group of younger performers.
Although Helena Gellar probably won’t appear on screen now that her character, the beauty queen, was murdered by the killer, she is expected to contribute to the reboot in some informal role.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but feel a sense of pride when I say that my cherished companion, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, is taking the helm on this project. We often joke about my role in an unofficial capacity, which is ensuring continuity – keeping things consistent and flowing smoothly from one scene to another.
I often find myself explaining to her the logical outcomes for certain characters, making me effectively serve as an unofficial consultant, if you will.
In addition to Hewitt and Prinze Jr, the new slasher film features Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Sarah Pidgeon, and Tyriq Withers as its main stars.
Jennifer has assembled a fantastic team, and I’m overjoyed and thrilled for each one of them. I’ll be there, offering encouragement from behind the camera. (Said Gellar)
Initially, Camila Mendes from Riverdale was set to lead the upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer remake. However, she had to withdraw from the project because of scheduling issues that arose after she accepted the role of Teela in the Masters of the Universe reboot, which co-stars Nicholas Galitzine as well.
The I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot will be released on July 18, 2025.
