Buffy and Gossip Girl star Michelle Trachtenberg dies, aged 39

Gossip Girl star Michelle Trachtenberg has died at the age of 39.

Reliable sources from both ABC News and the New York Post have verified that the actress passed away in her New York City apartment. At this time, authorities are not considering her death to be under suspicion.

As a gamer, I’ve been recognized for portraying Willow Rosenberg, the younger on-screen sister of Buffy (played by Sarah Michelle Geller) in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series. Later, I stepped into the shoes of Georgina Sparks in the teen drama Gossip Girl.

2022 saw her returning to her character Sparks in two episodes of the revamped show. Her most recent on-screen appearance was in 2024, where she portrayed Michelle Cody White in the series ‘Spyral‘.

Initially, Trachtenberg embarked on a career as a child actor. At the tender age of three, he secured a part in the enduring American soap opera “All My Children,” portraying Lily Montgomery.

Subsequently, she appeared in popular children’s series like “The Adventures of Pete & Pete” on Nickelodeon and “Truth or Scare” on Discovery. Later, she was cast as the main character Harriet M Welsch in the 1996 movie “Harriet the Spy,” which was an adaptation of the well-known children’s book.

Apart from that, she was featured in the 2004 cult hit “Euro Trip” and took on the main part in the Disney ice-skating film “Ice Princess.” Later, she secured a spot on “Gossip Girl.

In 2023, it was Trachtenberg who proposed the idea of returning her famous character from ‘Gossip Girl’, a suggestion accepted by Joshua Safran, the show’s creator, for the reboot series.

He shared with Deadline in 2022 that Michelle initially began discussing her return during the writers’ room for season one, saying something along the lines of, “I’d love to rejoin.

In addition to his role here, Trachtenberg has also appeared in shows like ’17 Again’, ‘House’, ‘Weeds’, ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’, and ‘Sleepy Hollow’.
