As a die-hard AFL fan, I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of admiration and excitement when it comes to Buddy Franklin. His life journey from the snowy slopes of Norway to the sunny Gold Coast, and now back to football, is nothing short of inspirational.

Buddy Franklin is enjoying some down time with his family.

The retired soccer player, along with his wife Jesinta and their kids Rocky and Tallulah, ventured into the snowy landscape together.

On Monday, the family posed playfully for Instagram in a collection of pictures, enjoying their winter adventure on the ski slopes of Norway.

In one image, the couple beamed alongside a ski instructor, in another, the children got busy with a lesson.

Other photos showed Jestina relaxing outside the couple’s cabin in between rounds on the skis.

Another image showed their boy, dressed in a superhero cape, gazing out the window at the falling snow.

‘Not bad,’ Buddy wrote in the caption alongside the series of photos.

It comes after Franklin announced his return to footy just 12 months after retiring from the AFL.

As I took my leave from the world of sports last August, I looked back on a remarkable journey spanning 19 seasons filled with 1066 goals achieved while representing the esteemed teams of Hawthorn and Sydney. The emotions that welled up were beyond words as I bid adieu to a career that was nothing short of legendary.

After moving to the Gold Coast with his family, the ex-forward is now considering selling his $9 million mansion to embrace rural living instead.

Now, the 37-year-old has been appointed as an official representative for Superkick, a popular program often referred to as Auskick’s “more stylish older brother.” This role will involve assisting approximately 10,000 children.

The program is designed specifically for children aged eight to twelve, either those looking to enhance their soccer abilities or newcomers just starting out with the game.

The AFL Superkick league prohibits tackling, features smaller squads, and offers a more compact playing schedule. Its primary goal is to serve as an accessible introduction to the sport.

Franklin will visit schools and get out in the community to ‘put a smile on kids’ faces.’

After retiring, it was natural for me to long for a moment of relaxation with a deep breath. Now, a year has passed since then, and for the past few months, I’ve been exploring opportunities to re-engage myself in football somehow.

When the chance presented itself, I eagerly seized it, thinking, “It seems perfect for my needs.”

As a seasoned coach who has dedicated my life to nurturing young talent in football, I can’t express enough how fulfilling it is for me to witness the growth of the game and help shape the future of Australian football. Today, standing here at this school, playing football with these kids, fills me with immense joy and a sense of purpose. The energy and enthusiasm they bring to the game never cease to amaze me, and I feel privileged to be part of their journey.

‘I’m looking forward to the next couple of months.’

Franklin also pinpointed the benefits that the program has for kids.

He expressed that what truly matters most is witnessing the joy on children’s faces, but additionally, it involves venturing out to establish fresh relationships as well.

It seems to me that engaging in activities, spending time outdoors, and forming new relationships are crucial aspects of this program.
