Brute 1976 – Release News

I’m so excited that Cinephobia Releasing just put out the new film Brute 1976! It’s from director Marcel Walz – you might know him from films like That’s A Wrap and Pretty Boy – and writer Joe Knetter, who also worked on George A. Romero’s Twilight of the Dead. You can watch it right now on VOD and digital platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Google Play, Vimeo on Demand, and YouTube Movies.

Brute 1976 is a violent and sensual film, featuring a disturbingly deranged family that makes John Waters’s Pink Flamingos seem positively wholesome, according to Raymond Murray, President of Cinephobia. He also stated that Brute 1976 renewed his appreciation for truly shocking horror films.

Inspired by classic ‘70s horror films like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes, Brute 1976 is set in, you guessed it, 1976. The story follows Raquel and her girlfriend when their car breaks down on a remote roadside. Meanwhile, a photography crew is working in the desert. They unexpectedly discover a deserted town inhabited by a family of masked psychopaths.

Walz stated, “I’ve always really enjoyed The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes, both the original versions and the remakes.” He added, “Shooting Brute 1976 was incredible – it was hot, grimy, and very bloody. I think the viewers will definitely feel that intensity when they watch it.”

Knetter stated, “We’re thrilled that Cinephobia will be releasing Brute 1976 across North America. It’s our contemporary reimagining of the 70s horror movies we’re passionate about.” They added, “We can’t wait for audiences to meet the Birdy family and see all the gruesome details!”

Brute 1976 stars Adriane McLean (Miracles of Christmas), Sarah French (Blind), Gigi Gustin (The Retaliators), Dazelle Yvette (Garden of Eden) and Adam Bucci (NCIS Los Angeles). The film comes from production company Neon Noir, and was produced by Marcel Walz, Joe Knetter, and Sarah French. Dirk Schürmann and Tobias Schürman were Executive Producers. Robert Kern III (Prey, Creepypasta) handled makeup effects, while Marcus Friedlander (The Getback) was the Director of Photography.
